Meet the "Wow! Signal" (I never knew this existed untill I was watching a program on it)

This signal

btw is non-terrestrial in origin, and the frequency range negates it as normal star/planet noise

Nice write up on Wikipedia on it, but you'll have to copy and paste it to the address bar.

Oh...that noise one hears in the background of the above video is the Wow! signal.

The issue is that since the

The issue is that since the WOW signal we've ravaged the skies for more WOW signals, and we haven't found them. We as humans transmit WOW signals 24 hours a day every day since the 1940's... it's hard to imagine some non-terrestrial species blipped a wow signal and then didn't do anything else.

Thats the mystery isn't

But as stated in the Wikipedia article:

Ehman has stated his doubts that the signal is of intelligent extraterrestrial origin: "We should have seen it again when we looked for it 50 times. Something suggests it was an Earth-sourced signal that simply got reflected off a piece of space debris."[8]

He later recanted his skepticism somewhat, after further research showed an Earth-bound signal to be very unlikely, due to the requirements of a space-borne reflector being bound to certain unrealistic requirements to sufficiently explain the nature of the signal.[9] Also, the 1420 MHz signal is problematic in itself in that it is "protected spectrum": it is bandwidth in which terrestrial transmitters are forbidden to transmit.[10][11] In his most recent writings, Ehman resists "drawing vast conclusions from half-vast data."

So it is really hard to say excatly what it was, but I still think it is cool becuase of the mystery of it and no clear definition of what it was :)

Wait...

so what's so special about the signal other than it can't be natural...well by any means that we know of. Like doesnt the signal decypher into something or is it just a signal that has to be artificially produced?

Also if you find that interesting you should check out the Saturn signal NASA found years ago, I can't remember exactly when they discovered it. Probably when they sent some probes by it, but its a VERY odd signal from my understanding. Some people said it was probably from its rings, rocks and debris hitting each other...but the thing is they recorded what that sounds like to and it sounds nothing like the signal they discovered. Again...unless there's just some means of creating the signal we don't know about yet. We've never actually been to Saturn before, so who knows what the hell is going on in there.

I frankly do believe there's other intelligent life out there and our government has tried ever so hard to keep it a secret from us and for the most part has succeded. I have my own theories, but you guys probably think I'm crazy enough as it is, no need to give you more evidence on that :P

Edit - I just read the Wiki artical, no need to explain it.
