Which is quicker?

So I want to get my priest from 5-85... quickly.  Just wondering if it's going to be quicker to quest, do random 5 mans, or random BG's.  Considering I can que as healer or dps I would think the wait times wouldn't be bad... and I hate the idea of questing through outlands and nothrend again... but I equally hate the idea of pug hell or fail bgs.

Also, my last hack cost me my hierloom set.  Do you think the 20% xp gain would outwieght the time investment of 4000ish pt grind to get em back?

I doubt I will be leveling any more alts soon, so the decision really boils down to just this toon.

Just answered my question on the second half, yes the point grind is worth the 20% hierloom return.

If anyone is interested here's my very rough math:

1-85 = ~4days played: 96hrs, 20% off ~20hrs saved

Random Heroics avg ~400pts per run (if you're valor capped for the week).  Assuming an hour on the high side for clear/que times, thats ~10hrs spent if you pug it.

So spend 10 (worst case) to get 20, 100% return on time investment... roughly, okay very roughly.  Run that with a good group and you're looking at 1/2 the investment.

We got guild heirlooms now too?  I'm gonna miss the gold, but that's a sure fire win *nods* Ttoo bad none of the casty stuff has spirit on it.  Did they forget about priests?

Mabye I should read the major patch notes from 3.3 to present...

Random 5 mans in between

Random 5 mans in between questing.  Except if you have an honor weekend for a BG that you are eligible for.  Your xp gain seems to be tied into Honor gain so the increased honor helps leveling faster.  It also depends on the time of day.  Certain times the horde is just awful at bgs if you lose a couple in a row go back to 5 mans.

I leveled my druid through

Cardhu's picture

I leveled my druid through dungeon finder untill i hit 55.  Too many DKs thinking their tanks making my druid tanking horrible (see that,I totally sherked responsibility for my lame ass tanking).  Other then that dungeon finder was a great help as I couldn't be bother to do all the quests again.  It kind of made 10 levels pretty rough.  Well atleast till i hit 64 and did all of nagrand and started healing in dungeons.  My tanking gear was heirloom but did fine healing in the reward blues and ah stalking.

also did 80 to 85 on my too alts though dungeon finder.

I also used rested xp then stoped but I wasn't really in a hurry to level as that kind of spead things up from a time played perspective.

Heirlooms would help.  they must have a record of it, file a ticket to get them restored.   I also find honor accumulates much faster then justice if you cherry pick your time spent, its less then optimal gear but 10% is a signficant gain.  AV weekend plus TB usually maxes you out pretty quick.  You can always take the conversion penalty to justice from honour if you really want the pve gear.

I'd ticket them till they give it back to you.  Its not like they have bigger issues to deal/ will deal  with as far as i'm concerned.

Ya, that last hack stung like a mofo...

I got hit sometime in 3.3 during an extended break (until 4.2).  If it wasn't for pulling Bhut's last posted run off wowprogress... I doubt they would have given her back.  My bank alt, my 40ish priest who had the full heirloom set (minus the additions in cata)... were never returned to me.  Or ANY of the gold/mats I logged off with.  They reinstated Bhuta with the gear listed on that report... but all of my shit was gone... including a ton of achvs.  All I got back was my pally (I assume because he's a guild leader), my dk, and Bhuta...  all stripped of anything that could be vendored for more than half a gold.  I did get 100g "starting money" and about 2 dozen level 1 jibberish toons spanned across every server.  Bah... that still burns my ass.

At any rate, hooked up with some guildies monday and blew through those randoms quick.  Got all the +xp pieces.  The heirlooms are not optimized for healing or priests (no spirit) but +35% is sexy!  Might go back and get the trinkets too... sucks that the procs require a killing blow... but the added intel might save me a few casts/drinks when in dungeon.

Dinged 15 last night, qued for random and in one RFC walked away 17... took less than 30 min (with a near instant que time).  I can only hope my tonight goes as well.  I can't really stomach going through those quests again... collect 10 of these, kill 15 of that, it's unending drudgery imo.  I might give pvp a shot... Dvi is undead, and shadow looks promising, I just hate the prospect of failing in bgs.  A sucky tank or dps is usually pretty easy to replaced... always loved instances and know a good 90% of the content by heart... so this looks like my favored method (as long as I don't get too many failpugs).

basically..

with the huge flock of alts i've leveled, i find the best thing to do is quest/grind professions (if you do gathering which = xp) in between running randoms, and xp boosts really, really help. for me, i'd actually leave an alt in an inn for a while and play something else or just.. not play for a while due to RL, then come back to the added bonus of a level or two of rest, plus quests and dungeons and heirlooms.. i could get a lot of levels under my belt.

that's what I'm doing now...

after healing a few rdf pugs... I learned something... healing sucks a good deal more than questing (terribly boring imo).  My hat goes off to our healers, I'm so glad you do what you do, cause I sure cant.  Installed the wow-pro/james leveling addon and quested out 3 levels in about an hour.  Never got a a dungeon, but didn't hurt my feelings.  At least I'm crushing health bars instead of bringing them up (as the old gods intended).

Embrace the shadows!
