Useful Power Auras/ Macros/

Had several discussions lately walking people through some Power Aura setups- Thought I would post a few pics and descriptions as well as macros. Exports of the auras are easy if you want them!
First, a kinda standard screenshot:

This one explains some of the power auras/addons:

This one shows a really useful power aura for Priests speced into Evangelism/Archangel. The first shows how the stacks are represented. One swoosh for each stack of Evangelism (Smite or Mind Flay), with a timer to let you know how long the stacks are up for. The second shows when you pop Archangel, with a timer letting you know how much longer the wings are up. The aura works for Disc or Shadow. *disclaimer* This particular set was made by Derevka- super wonderful priest whos blog is here http://talesofapriest.com/:
"

If you want to import any of these auras for yourself, feel free to let me know and ill post the exports. Just avoiding a really long post if no one needs them :P
Macros! To save on space/time/engery I have found mouseover macros really useful. There are certain spells that are a real pain without them (binding heal, leap of faith, battle rez are a few that come to mind.) Here are some of those that I have found most useful- the way I have them set up is to favor the mouseover target first (ie, the person your mouse is pointing to- either the phyical character or their character pane in a unit frame), and if no mouseover target, then it will target your target.
Binding Heal:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover, help] Binding Heal; [help] Binding Heal; Binding Heal
Greater Heal:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover, help] Greater Heal; [help] Greater Heal; Greater Heal
Leap of Faith:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover, help] Leap of Faith; [help] Leap of Faith; Leap of Faith
Battle Res:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=mouseover, help] Rebirth; [help] Rebirth; Rebirth
Holy Word- This one is tricky but was needed to make Holy Word work as a key bind. First, you have to put Holy Word: Chastise somewhere on your action bars. I put it way out of the way, on the far right. This will not be the actually key bind for using the spell. Then hover your mouse over the spell on the action bar, and run this code: /run local f = GetMouseFocus(); if f then DEFAULT_CHAT_FRAME:AddMessage(f:GetName()) end
This will give you the name of the action bar button to replace in this macro. I know this is confusing so if you need help just ask and I can clarify :P Then, go in and make a macro like normal using this formula:
/tar [@mouseover,exists]
/click MultiBarRightButton1
Replace the last bit with whatever the code told you the spell was bound to (ie multibarrightbutton1). Then place this macro button wherever you want the key bind to be when using the spell.
Other useful macros:
These are useful for casting offensive spells while healing:
Mana Burn- If your target is friendly, this will cast mana burn on the target of your target.
#showtooltip Mana Burn
/target [help] focus
/cast Mana Burn
Mana Burn Focus- or if you prefer, this will attempt to mana burn your focus target
#showtooltip
/cast [target=focustarget] Mana Burn
Smite- This will smite your focus target. While in disc spec, I set the boss as my focus, then I can smite without having to click around and target him in the heat of battle:
#showtooltip
/cast [target=focustarget] Smite
Shadowfiend- this will make sure your pet starts attacking an enemy. If you have an enemy target, it will attack that. If you have a friendly target, it will attack the target of the target.
#showtooltip Shadowfiend
/cast [nopet,harm][nopet,target=targettarget,harm] Shadowfiend
/petattack [harm][target=targettarget,harm]
Hope something in here helps! Have fun and good luck!

=O
I, for one, have recently been amazed at what Power Aura's can do for a fire mage. Also, I find myself incredibly grateful for Irullan's contribution here for priests. You're probably going to see Bubbles on more often now that I have access to these.
In other news, I feel that so far (Bubbles is only level 24), discipline is a VERY strong dps option. I've gathered a few small samples from both pvp and pve environments and they are impressive numbers. After looking at the cloth gear options for an 85 disc priest, I feel confident about the raiding potential a battle priest has to offer. Mmmm.
Power Auras
I'm glad you posted these since with the death of my hard drive, I lost all of the Power Auras I had set up for Ikuri. /sadface This will make it easier to put them back together.
One thing though is that I used the Horde symbol for my Power Aura when it came to Evangelism stacks. It would build the Horde symbol on my screen bit by bit with each stack and then once I hit 5 stacks it would be big, bright red and make a noise at me. Really easy for me to remember what to do.
Have you found a Power Aura code for identifying stacks of Grace on a target? I was working on one before I left for the weekend and of course now it's lost. That's one of the buffs I have trouble remembering to take advantage of.
Relm- you are so right! i was
Relm- you are so right! i was doing around 2k on bosses in crappy gear when I started discing at 85. I havent revisited the spec recently but i really think the term "battle priest" is accurate. It totally reminds me of this quote I love about healers- "our companions may fight a boss and his minions, but we fight death itself."
Ikuri-
Yes! I can show you the export when I get home later- the problem is, Power Auras cant just scan the raid, so you have to set the tank as your focus and it will show the symbol for stacks of grace on that target. Great for when you are assigned to tank healing or doing a 5man, but not very useful otherwise. The work around I have found is with healbot (you can do the same with grid or whatever) I have the buff show up on the bar of the target affected by grace, with a number showing the number of stacks in the bottom right corner, and a red flashing number at the top when the stacks only have 4 seconds left (time enough to pop a penance over there). It isnt as in your face as an aura would be, but it allows you to track grace on any target, and to see multiple targets with grace if you are running more than one disc priest.
Yeah
I use VuhDo for healing, and I have it set the same way so that Grace is shown as a HoT icon on my healer frames. But I had wanted it as a power aura for when I tank heal, since I am bad about missing it sometimes. So yeah, if you have one already made up, that would save me a lot of hassle in redoing mine all over again. Thanks!
Macros...
Does anyone know a way to have two things go off one macro?
For instnace I want a macro that casts a first spell, if it's not on cooldown... but if it is on cooldown, to cast another one. Is that possible?
ie something like...
/cast [spell=nocooldown] Starsurge
/cast Wrath
which doesn't work btw....
Anyone know if something like that is possible.
Internal Timer
Yes! It is quite possible- if I follow what you are wanting, you need to set an internal CD timer in the macro. Im not sure what the ideal CD would be.... Im not familiar enough with boomkin to know how it is affected by talents/glyphs. It woudl prolly look something like this-
/castsequence reset=10 Starsurge, Wrath
This would attempt to cast Starsurge, and if Starsurge is on CD, then it would cast wrath. This has the CD for the macro set to 10 sec, so every 10 secs it would reset and attempt to cast starsurge again if you click it. YOu would have to add another line to get it to cast wrath after starsurge I believe, so
/castsequence reset=10 Starsurge, Wrath
/cast Wrath
Give that a try! I always have to fidget with macros but that should be a start!
*edit*
another useful thing to try is adding a modifier you dont already use- ie alt/ctrl. That would let you use the same key, for different spells.
wouldn't it be...
more like
/castsequence reset=10 Starsurge,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath
I added 10 b/c he shouldn't be able to cast more than 10 wraths in 10 sec.
I use castsequence for thrash/swipe and it rolls over when it hits the end.
"more like /castsequence
"more like
/castsequence reset=10 Starsurge,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath,wrath"
Lol kibi.
And yeah I think the issue is, if thrash is on CD, it wont try to swipe- right? But then if you cast it again, it would try to swipe even if thrash is off CD. Thats why the timer is useful I think.
yup yup
I haven't really run into any major issues with it yet. I'm just lazy I'll prolly add a reset at some point, it's not a huge deal since it's only 2 spells too.
but that should work for you, Tal. The reset will come back to starsurge regardless of where you are in the sequence.
Not sure if this will work
While Starsurge has a basic cooldown, it can also reset and become an instant cast at anytime during the sequence, and when that happens it needs to be cast, so it's not a matter of"ok wait 10 seconds" I've cast it 3 times in a row before because it keeps instant resetting based on my dots.
Would that work for the above? It needs to cast if it's available, not wait for a specific cooldown, and if it's not available then cast the other spell. If I put a 10 second cooldown in there it won't do what I want it to do.
try this...
Try setting the reset to 2 instead of 10. That should make it reset after the GCD. Then if it is up, it will cast it no matter what. (I didnt realize this spell could randomly come off CD, good to know!)
Not sure this will work.
I think he'll just end up looking at a button with starsurge on CD and won't be able to cast wrath. Not sure a macro can do what you are looking for.
You can try.
/cast starsurge
/cast wrath
You'll that may work, but you'll get "you can't do that yet" spam since it tries to cast starsurge first.
To be cont'd
Nah, the way it is written it should try to cast wrath if it cant cast stargsurge. Did you try testing it? Like i said you may have to fiddle to find a CD number that wont effect the random procing of Starsurge. Still I dont think it will proc again more than 2 seconds after casting it... and if so the GCD would be up. Even so kibi may be right- havent been able to test this one.
*EDIT*
Yeah i just tested this and I havent found a good way to do it with a random CD spell.... If it isnt off CD it will totally spam "I cant cast that" but if you dont make it a short internal timer, it could be off CD. Ill play around and get back to ya but i really think this is an ideal case for a power aura.
I mention below...
The problem is that it can reset at any time and become an instant cast spell, and then it MUST be cast immediatley, so I can't set a specific time on it. I just need to be able to cast it when it's available, wehther it's the reset and suddenly instant, or whether the cooldown ticked down and it's got a cast time. I've frequently cast it twice in a row, or een three times in a row because it instant procs. Having it on a 10 second cooldown would not work.
Also I use alts and controls already. It's not really a matter of not having enough keys, but trying to dumb down a bit to make sure I don't miss casting starsurge when it's avaialble at all times.
POWA!
Also power aura! you can make a power aura to flash the spell symbol real big, or more subtle halo or something everytime it is off CD. I have one like this that makes a spash sound, and a big fade in fade out symbol for a trinket proc. Hard to miss :P
Is this the addon?
Power Auras Classic addon? Or is it part of the standard UI auras that you can modify?
Power Auras classic is it! If
Power Auras classic is it! If you need any help lemme know :)
I found this one just lookig around on Power Auras forums- not the prettiest around but it is a good base to start with and let you see what to do. Tracks when Starsurge is off Cooldown and available for casting and also catches Shooting Stars procs. To import it, log into wow, and type /powa then click "page 1" on the left, and then "import". copy and paste this code in and you should be good to go.

Power Auras Classic
<3 <3 <3 <3
This addon can do so much for any class or role. It's helped me make use of my mastery for tanking sooo much more (My mastery gives me a physical absorbtion shield), keep track of procs for dps, keep track of buffs and I'm sure it can do so much for healing as well. Me and my Power Auras...
Auras set up for my lock - Insta Shadow Bolt Proc, Soul Fire Haste Proc and buffs up top (Fel Armor, Dark Intent and Well Fed).
My DK I have quite a bit more, especially depending on spec. For my Blood Spec I have my - Blood Shield (Mastery Proc), Icebound Fortitude, Boneshield, Dancing Rune Weapon, Vampiric Blood, Blade Barrier and last but not least my Blood Presence glyph :P It's a lot when I have all of them on test mode, but realistically all these won't be up at the same time...
Lastly being my Frost Spec glyphs, much more simple than my Blood Spec. Here you'll see IBF (again), insta Howling Blast/Icy Touch and my insta crit proc...
I can keep going with what Power Auras can do for you, but I haven't found a class yet that couldn't benefit from it one way or another, you can even attach timers/stack to each glyph/buff. Put it this way...it's so good, Blizzard did with Power Auras what they've done with many great addons in the past...they incorperated it into the game...horribly, but they did do it.
whats that??
Xyro im totally curious! What do the snowflake and the sword track? Is that your insta-crit proc? I feel liek powerauras would be AMAZING for a warlock (especially demonology) - maximizing dps is so dependant on taking advantage of procs etc. Thanks for sharing your love of power auras! I love seeing how other people use them. I learned the other day that Lore (@tankspot) uses almost all audio ones- totally made me rethink all i thought i knew about power auras.
Dipping a toe into the water of Power Auras
Alright, I give in. I will try and set this up soon. There are so many good uses for this addon--plus I hate the way the Blizz auras look. I know enough about this to know that it is a fairly complex addon to set up. I'll look in the power auras wiki and see if the strings I need are somewhere out there. Particularly want to try this while druid healing and as a ret pally.
Any good power auras resources I should know about?
sweet!
Awesome mel! as you can see, lots of powa fans around to help you set some up :D I know resto4life used to have great power auras for resto druids, but shes not writing anymore that i know of so they are prolly out of date. Ill definately keep an eye out! A good place to start when making your own, is to make a mental checklist of things you find yourself actually having to think about when you play. Check the ones off that you would think about less or not at all if you had some intuitive way of informing you it was happening. Make auras for those! That will free up your eyes/brain for all the stuff an addon cant do- like move you out of fire :P
Aren't that bad...
It's a little daunting to set up at first, very similar to Pitbull. But once you get a hang of it, you'll be whipping up Auras in no time. The longest thing about making an Aura for me now is choosing the color, graphic and location =P
If you need any help Mel feel free to ask, I know there's quite a few in the guild who use Powa.
Guessed right...
Yup, it's great for locks, the time I tried demonology and destro briefly I saw sooo many uses for it, hell I'm Afflic and find it great. But for my DK...the crossed swords is my Killing Machine proc (Insta crit on next Obliterate, Frost Strike or Icy Touch) and the Snowflake is my Rime talent procing my Freezing Fog buff which gives me a free cast on my next Howling Blast or Icy Touch. This is what the two proccing together with Blizzards 'Power Auras'.
Ugh...plus no timers. Yup give me my power aura please!
Btw Tal
I ran into that problem with a CD spell interfering with a macros use on my lock awhile back...my solution? Make two macros, one with and one without it =P
