finally :D my artist just randomly called me today and said he got his license, so i just went asap after work and got it done :) it barely hurt, i was shocked. i <3 high pain tolerance.
this is just the line art. in about a month or so i'm finishing it with the shading :) (the scales are lined in red to look smoother in the shading)

half done :) the koi it's self would've been finished, but my artist was getting stressed out due to outside things, and his back was killing him, so we called it quits for the time being. my hip now feels like raw meat! but it's prettyyyy

You mentioned the artist just got his license, but this work looks like it's been done by a very practiced hand. Nice art, great placement, well executed. I hope you enjoy that for many many years to come, and I also hope your koi do not turn into blowfish.

What a difference...
between the outline and the coloring. Looks like its coming along nicely, how long did it take to get all that coloring? More importantly how much longer do you have to be jabbed with a needle millions of times?

it took about 3 hours to do that coloring, then i'm probably going to have another 5 or so hours on the rest of the fish depending on how quick my artist moves along.. that's like 11 hours for my first tattoo o.o

Man that sounds painful, the one I'm getting on my shoulder is going to take about 6 hours total and I'm really not looking forward to the next three.

i'm *really* hoping it doesn't actually take 5 hours to do the rest, but there's so much detail that i wouldn't doubt it, this makes me glad he's been giving me a few hours for free because i play WoW ;)

I just figure it's implied I'd make some sexist comment, and I was too lazy to post anything clever. I dunno, something about the wench getting a bunch of tuna or whatever the fish is. I'unno. Anything you can think of is probably worse than what I'd say. You come up with it on your own.

I love it Kass! I think it looks great so far - your artist did a really nice job of taking your design and transferring it! And I love the placement! It's a lot bigger than I was expecting it to look, but I think you picked a great place for it and it flows really well with your hip. Good job!

nope
i was going to get a small sparrow on my foot to start (even though i wanted this more), but grad money came in and i decided i have enough for the big tattoo :)
and i think if it's added now it might throw off the balance, but it will be somewhere on a tattoo i get at some point :)

That's pretty sweet...what was the total time for the tattoo outline and how much time were they estimating for shading? Also was that a drawing you did beforehand? When I got my shoulder tattoo which wasn't really hard to do it took about 3 hrs to do and then 1 hr for touch up.
Now people might find this crazy but I find getting a tattoo very soothing the dull pain is almost hypnotic. It's probably one of the few times I was actually able to relax as I was under a lot of stress when I got mine done about two years ago. I am looking at getting another one if my girlfriend ever lets me.

it took three hours for the outline, adn it's going to be at least 5 more for the shading, i might be looking at a 10 hour tattoo for my first one :x
and i don't find it crazy at all, i could've fallen asleep in the chair :P
