Tal's Live Stream

Come back here around raid time. I'll be streaming my video and mumble, so those that can't attend, or aren't ready to raid, can watch and have fun with the rest of us. You can also get to the video stream directly at http://www.xfire.com/live_video/talarashne/
I hope to start my broadcast around 7:30pm Server Time.

Xfire streams tend to fill with trolls and spammers alarmingly quick.
Holy frick, this is amazing!
Holy frick, this is amazing! What dungeon is this?
I hear Jaleika! I hear Tart!
I hear Jaleika! I hear Tart! OMGOOSES! <3
Oh and LOL Relm. ;)
So
How did people like the live stream?
So
It was awesome! I especially liked the part where Tal was running back to zone in after he died on the starting trash :-) But seriously... I did not watch the entire time, but did watch for a few attempts and it was very educational. Not like being there, but useful in its own right.
One thing I especially got out of it was the excellent communication that was happening. especially for one particular attempt that I watched. I was majorly impressed. Mumble was kept very clear except for key communication. Relm was pointing out most of the play by play as it happened, very clearly and succinctly. Then others were chiming in as needed when key things happened, most notably Malk and Tart for Tron positioning and effects, Iky for general raid stuff, and Xyro and a couple others piped up for certain things. You all looked like pros!

Thanks so much for doing this Tal--I watched a bit of it, and it was awesome to get a taste of what everyone was up to. I also quite like your UI, you've solved the walls of bars problem nicely I think--seemed like your visibility was pretty good. Congrats to everyone!
Thanks!
I heard such positive things from everyone about the live stream! Seems everyone that watched it really enjoyed seeing us work as a team, and it got people pumped for Thursday. Was it recorded by chance? I would have loved to re-watch that final fight.
Also, Buh! I never got to meet you - aren't you coming back? I need another psycho mage-tank to keep healed. :P
No
It wasn't recorded. You can record stuff but it takes an obscene amount of space so I just did live stream only. Maybe we can figure out a way to record it for the future. However I think since people liked it I might regularly live stream our raids at least on Tuesdays.
Thanks Tal
It was really neat to watch this, even if I only had time to check out the first couple of trash pulls.
No idea when or if I will ever get back into raiding, so its great to be able to at least view it this way. I think you should definitely do this each week.
Storage
If it would help with the video stream storage I have a 500GB drive lying around, and I might have some 1TB drives I could get ahold of. At least it would give you a drive to dump the stream to while recording and then you could compress it and upload somewhere later. I think recording our raids for an after-action like football players watching game footage. This is a noble cause i could donate some old hardware to.
Also having video evidence of Relms antics would be nice as well.
if you think it would be helpful i would be willing to mail these out to you.
totes
man i would love to go back and be able to watch the videos somehow. so many times after a wipe i was asking myself "ok so WHAT happened??"- some things just arent accurately understood through combat logs.
I'd say...
if someone wants to record it then someone else should do it. Mostly because I don't want my machine to blow up on me when we're raiding. I could stream it, and somoene else can record it. You can use XFire for free to record, but it does chop up fast. Over 100 megs per minute. An hour would be 6 gigs. A thre hour raid would be closer to 20 gigs. I guess I have room for that, but I'm mostly worried about just doing it all on one machine. Maybe someone else can record the raid, and put it up after compressing it down.
I also don't want the extra job. i already waste enough time on stuff, I don't need one more thing. :P The live stream is easy enough. I press a button and voila I'm streaming. I don't have to think about it after that.
But yeah if someone else wants to record it and upload it for after action review, I'm not opposed to it, I"m just not doing it myself. :)
Well...
I did mention in another post that I can record if asked, but I'm not going to have Fraps running every attempt if not asked...well atleast not usually =P I just need to know what to record, what you people want to see and what I can delete. Fraps runs continuously and lets just average it off...3 hours of non stop filming with Fraps equates to roughly 180 GB, not too bad, but it does stack up quickly.
In the near future I would love to buy another 1 TB drive or hell even a 2 TB drive just for movies and recordings, but money doesn't permit me to do that right now, so I have to make do with the 1 TB drive. It's not like I can't store anything, but I already have a few videos from WoW saved...among other videos that piratebay graciously donated to me =D
Hmmm
Why can't these things record in a better more compressed format? I mean I don't get video encoding. Why can I download a 2 hour movie and it's like 800 meg, or even a DVD movie straight ripped is 4 GB, but then we record with fraps and 3 hours runs 200 GB or so. What's up with that? Why can't it initially record smaller?
It's computationally expensive
Unless you have a monster computer, you wouldn't want to play wacraft, fraps video, and compress the video all at the same time.
No point
There's really no point to actively compress video as you record. My computer doesn't even shudder at Frapsing while in a 25 man raid on Ultra settings, but I don't see the need to compress as you go. You still have to edit/splice the 4 min video clips together, best to just compress it all after your done editing it. I'm not worried about filling up my HD in one shot, I'd have to record for like 9 hours straight or something to do that, but eventually over time, the files add up.
Again, just let me know if we're ever wanting a camera man...ya know, especially having these bosses be our first pulls and possibly first 25 man kills. I may start running Fraps again for our 25 mans...god it feels like 25 man LK all over again...
Nooooooo clue
Once I edit and convert the videos they arent that bad, still kind of 'pricy' on memory depending on length and the format I chose to convert it into. The initial recording isn't too bad, I go into my 'Unedited' folder after wards and start running through the 45 4 min clips that Fraps left me with to delete any run backs, afks, etc. Once I do that I don't have too many clips to work with.
If I were to record stuff consistantly I'd just have to remember to clear our the unwanted clips shortly after raid, so I don't run into a low memory issue...kinda like when I passed out recording our Druken PvP ICC Night...woke up with 50 MB left on a 1 TB HD =D
Awesome!
Due to big overtimez this week and a headache last night I had to go to bed early, but I was very excited to see that my phone (Evo) will run Talavision!
It did feel a little creepy lying there listening to you guys. Well, Relm anyway...
I kept trying to
I kept trying to right-click-and-drag my mouse around to change Tal's camera position :(
yeah
I'm trying to be a little more consious of giving a good view of the action rather than always like.... top down. It's just that on some fights the top down angle is the safest for me to be at heh.
Bah!
We're not concerned for your safety! We want action!!
hey tal.
next time you raid, don't forget to do this. :D
