Surv or MM gear?

in
I am BM/Surv right now and have 1 set of gear. Do I need a second? I've seen a few comments about MM being a bitch without the gear... And is there an advantage in being MM over Surv? I have soooo much paper and websites to read, I am posting and hoping for short answers.

One of the actual hunters could tell you more...
However one think I know is that one of the specs you DONT want to be in raiding in Lich King is a BM Hunter. (or Arms Warrior....Frost Mage....one of the rogue specs, etc)
From my understanding Surv is the best, and with the right gear MM is good.
From the looks of things the Survival talent spec that's by far the most popular can be seen here...

0/15/56 seems to be by FAR the most popular hunter talent spec. NOthing else seems to come close.

My understanding
You go Survival until you have really good gear. Once you have good gear, you can go either/or. But yeah, one of the actual Hunters in the guild can tell you more. I'll poke Cacc later and tell him to come look at your thread and give you a more detailed answer.
Leave MM alone for now
Keeping stacking agility and getting better gear. You don't need two sets of gear for BM/Survival. I'll look at your armory later. MM requires a fairly high level of gear, like mostly ICC stuff. I can also link you Tanar's armory; that's my hunter I've been working on--it might be helpful to see someone who is still gearing.
From What I Understand
with MM gear you need to stack some serious armor pen..with agi of course.
Surv is a little more forgiving with mainly just stacking agi.
I personally love Surv, I was Surv back in Burning Crusade (I leveled as surv mostly) and still am to this day. I personally love it for the crowd control, its funny when I go in pugs in 5 man groups and the group sees an add I hit with a freeze arrow or a wyvern sting. Theyre always like "Hunter did you do that?" lol.
Stay Survival
For now. Like most have said, and I'll second as a hunter, stay Survival until you have the gear-- armor penetration gear, THEN go Marksmen. You won't gain any DPS if you make the change early and might in fact lose some. The talent spec that Tal posted is a great Survival spec, but once you have the appropriate gear and decide to switch to MM you can take a look at Faerilin's talents, or Siopao's talents. Switching to MM will bump up your DPS by a few thousand, but once again you have to have the gear for it first. Rule of thumb Soaps gave me was get to about 5400 gear score (since there isn't a huge range of high level hunter loot getting above 5400 requires most of the same gear which is why as a Hunter you can guesstimate it based on GS).
Holler at me in game if you need any help.
As long as you're stacking
As long as you're stacking agility 1 set for BM/SV is just fine.
If you want to go MM you'll need a 2nd set, or be willing to go MM permanently.
See the Soaps guide in the hunter forums.
easy to read, and gives an easy, peasy idea on how to spec, and gear.
Soaps is currently Agi marks, and for a long time the only Raiding MM hunter, i still haven't switched to Arpen Marks, as i am lacking the needed Static Arp to make the switch Viable
But come Cata, Looks like it's back to BM spec for leveling as Arp is going away, and Focus regen is best in the BM tree, Marks after that with gear, i'm waiting for Some surv. comments from Beta Players since to me it looks gimped for Cata.
My Stats in T9 Gear
I am NOT giving up BM unless the other two specs can use exotics. Here is what wow-heroes.com has on me now, it is missing a couple things (I did a live pull, maybe server issue.) I have to grind Hodir and Ebon Blade rep, and get my weapons upgraded. There charts say to concentrate on the top green and the yellow instances. Looked at Caccitore's build as far as gems and enchants were concerned. The pisser for me is that I have only one pet I can use, and I like him (purple wasp from SB) but, I need a better PvP pet. Went and looked at Petopia.com and everything I liked was an exotic.
If your'e most familiar with BM spec...
...I suggest you do some ICC 10's with us and gear up in there. More frost emblems, and drops you can use to upgrade nearly anything you have. YOu should be able to do enough dps to not be drag once you're T9 geared like you are, and the more you get in there the better you'll be. just sign up and show up on a raid night and we can take a look at how you're doing.
Stay BM if you want.
i've seen ..
Zaelya on Moonguard, in BM spec pull 11k dps for fun during an ICC 10 Heroic.
but then again that's with Arpen Marks gear, and a GS ov over 6k.
look at his build, and decide for yourself.
