I mean does it have a gps or does it work by motion? What's to prevent someone from riding on a bike or taking it in the car? I love the idea of this as it gets kids out and about.

I am assuming it works by motion like a traditional

Simple pedometers are just a weight that swing free with movement and activate a switch, I believe. The one in my shoe is a little more advanced, but it's basically the same strategy. So you really can't tke them in a car or on a bike, unless tey jiggle a lot.

The Pokemon pedometer the pokemon gains points, which allows them to unlock areas, gain items and level up the pokemon (it may include more but this is what they talk about after I give it back to them), so the kids take them around, jiggle them to cheat and give them to me (I run 5 to 10km a day, so they love when I carry it).
