The state of hollywood

So before bed I decide to watch a movie on netflix last night.
In my top 10 reccomendations for a while has been "Let Me In". On the box picture, it boasts "The best American Horror film in 20 years!".
So I watch it... and sure as shit... I'VE SEEN this movie. Only it was 4 years ago, and it was a Swedish film called "Let the right one in".
Admittadly this was a remake, and I might have enjoyed it a bit more (some parts didn't translate the clearest in the original) but hardly an "American" masterpiece as the cover would suggest.
Really is hollywood in such a state that we've got to rip off foriegn film to make a good movie?
Regardless, either are definately worth checking out... not in the least bit scary... but very interesting... and a refreshing change from sparkly twilight vampire movies.

Let The Right One In was an
Let The Right One In was an amazing film and probably one of the best horror films I've ever seen. Let Me In was a horrible, terrible film. Something about Lina Leandersson's performance just made the Swedish version so much better.
Watch out, 'cause The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is being remade as well. It has A list actors, but it will still be a pale comparison to the original Swedish film.
ya wtf?
I'm not going to bash the us version of this (for anything short of their claims). Setting it in the 80's was perfect, regan on the tv, I was about that age then and it just felt good n' nostaligic... and they did a great job capturing the original's feel. Very decent for a remake... imo.
The girl with the dragon tattoo series should definately be left a lone though.
But I'm far from a Swedish film buff... aside from tobacco (snus) I've got little knowledge of our norwegian friends.
Love me some snus though... I import a roll at least monthly...
in a word, yes
The movie people are getting excited about is the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo...which I saw on Netflix a few months ago...foreign version. Original ideas are hard to come by/pitch/sell/produce.
It's a trilogy
if you didnt know. The second movie was ok, third wraps everything up. I need to watch all three again at some point though.

I can't imagine that the films did the books justice. I've seen commercials and I'm very much left with a "meh" feeling.
That's Just Hollywood
This has been the state of mainstream film making in LA-LA Land since the early 70s. There used to be things called "B" films along with that scary entity known as an "independant" film. One could experiment, take risks, make art and even advance the "art" of film. Now, it's all a money game and a home run is what the studios expect every time.
So, they remake, time and again. Or, (my favorite) they buy a best selling novel, take the title and throw the book away.
But there are exceptions that keep us going back, given the state of today's computer generated art, we can tell ANY story, set any where and in any time. When it works, you get Lord of the Rings. Some directors refuse to to toss out the novel and we get Silence of the Lambs.
MY bro, major horror film buff showed me the original version of "Let the Right One In," no subtitles and I thought it was a nifty, creepy, little film. Something Hollywood can't do any more.
