Space Battleship Yamato aka Starblazers was one of the earliest anime series to come over to the US. It was first broadcast back in 1979 and I would race home to watch it after school. The first season saw them turn the sunken battleship Yamato from world war 2 into a space battleship in order to fly a gagzillion light years to the planet Iscandar to get a cure for the radioactive poisons that have been bombed at the earth by the planet Gamelon. They have a year to do it or the earth dies.
AT the end of every episdoe the narrator would say "hurry starforce, you only have 235 days left!" etc as a countdown in each episode.
Ya, can't say I've ever heard of it before...the only thing I correspond Yamato with is the 'charge up shot' aka Yamato Gun from Terran Battlecrusiers in Star Craft...now I know where they got the name from :P
My anime experience started in the early 90's, when my father started injecting me with liquid Transformers...I also remember Thunder Cats and Heman...ahh those were the days. I'm not even sure if those were considered anime...my guess is yes. I didn't become familar with the word 'anime' until the late 90s when the Pokemon craze hit after some kids had seizures from watching a certain episode...next was DBZ and the whole slew of anime that followed in it's wake on Cartoon Network.
I grew up on Star Blazers, too; it was not only my first major exposure to anime, but it was my first real exposure to arc storytelling; it was the first show I watched that ever honestly had an ending. I remember being thirty kinds of sad when I finally saw the last episode one afternoon.
Can't wait to see this; looks like they pulled out all the stops for this one.
Nova Should Be Blond Damnit :P
Hopefully this will be decent.
yeah
But still....she looks hot. That's the most important thing. Nova must be hot.
Is this a...
remake of an old movie I never saw or something?
One of the coolest anime out there.
Please tell me you're joking
Oh wait you're a youngin.... ok you're forgiven.
