It's fairly simple. I use a program called "Virtual Audio Cable" that allows me to convince my computer that I have a second sound card to handle everything. I use Winamp, I don't know how to make it work with Windows Media Player or anything else.

Step 1. Get VAC.  There are numerous ways to do it, but the legal one is to buy it. For those of you who don't want to spend 30$ on it, since it really isn't worth that, there are plenty of other methods that I will not elaborate on.

Step 2. Get Winamp. I recommend getting the Winamp Lite version of it, since you don't need a video player and media browser or whatnot, and it's a much more compact player. Winamp can open just about any audio file and is free for the Lite version.

Step 3. Install both. This might be harder than you imagine if you run Windows 7. Microsoft introduced a setup that requires all drivers to be digitally signed by them, which costs something like 300-400$ per year to maintain. Freeware can't handle that, and VAC despite costing 30$ is not signed. Probably because nobody buys it, since it, again, is not worth 30$. There are a few solutions but the easiest is just to reset your computer, and press F8 rapidly as it boots. Choose the Disable Driver Signing option from the list. You do have to do this every time you want to use the DJ program, but chances are you won't be using it often. Once that's done, install the program.

Step 4. Open Winamp. Right-click the top section and go to Options > Preferences. Control-P also works. Under the Plug-Ins menu, choose Output, then click NullSoft DirectSound Output and click Configure down below. From the dropdown list, choose Line 1 (Virtual Audio Cable). Apply, OK, and restart Winamp. It's now set to broadcast on the "microphone" that VAC created.

Step 5. Find your Mumble shortcut. Right-click it, and where it says "target", add -m to the end. This will allow you to open multiple instances of the client at the same time. Open one, and login as usual. Then, open a second, but do not join the server. Instead, close the server browser and open the Audio Wizard tool. Under Input Device, choose Line 1 (Virtual Audio Cable), and under Output, the same. What this will do is create a loop so that you hear yourself and nobody else on that client. Make sure that Attenuate Other Applications While Other Users Talk is disabled so the music doesn't dim when someone's talking - volume should be low enough that this is unnecessary.

Step 6. Right click the server, Edit, and change your login name to "Name DJ" or whatever else, as long as it is NOT your own since Mumble throws a fit when that happens. Now, go to Configure > Settings, and choose transmit type "Continuous" so that it plays all the time, then hit apply & OK. Log in with your new name, and mute the DJ channel on your other client, the one you talk with. On your DJ Client, mute everyone so you don't hear them talking twice.

Step 7. Play Music. Remember to keep the volume relatively low, I keep my winamp at ~8-16% volume, and 3% during fights. I use head phones and my system sound is very low, so I don't hear the same volume other people do.

The sole issue is that this changes the settings globally, so that the next time you restart Mumble you'll have to change it all back manually. Vent was easier since you didn't have to do as much work.

Thanks Tranq
