So i dug out my rogue only to learn that combat spec is now .... not so good. I re-specced Muti, which was close to what i had been using for pvp and really thought was fun. I read the posts here and they were quite helpful, and did fine vs the training dummies. (It's also still is great for pvp)
Anyway, i'm having dps issues in instances. For boss fights I'm doing great, but vs mobs and such i am really failing.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. And on the upside I dug out my frost dk, who with shitty gear does awesome damage theses days.

Rotation perhaps. Mutilate isn't overly complex, but if you do one of its few steps wrong, it ruins your DPS.
Deadly on off hand, instant on main. Keep Slice & Dice up at all times, Rupture is the second priority. Envenom otherwise. Vendetta for burst damage. Only use Rupture or Envenom when you have 4 or 5 combo points, and only use Mutilate for combo points, nothing else. Garotte to open for bonus energy to get into your rotation. Vanish can be used on cooldown for bonus energy from Overkill, or on burst damage if needed with Vendetta.

Thanks for the poison advice, I think I had deadly on main to try out some pvp stuff ( which may also be totally wrong). I've been following those rotation steps and they work great for bosses. Just for smaller pulls and mobs I can't seem to get into a decent rhythm to produce adequate dps. meh, at this point I'm looking at user error..

Don't you just hit FoK?? Also, I wouldn't really worry about your DPS on trash mobs.

Make sure you poison your throwing weapon - it helps when you're FOKing around.

Deadly on your thrown weapon. That way once you spam it five or six times, it starts applying Instant with a much higher proc rate than Instant actually does, on top of lobbing both your main weapons' poisons. Potentially three shots of Instant Poison with each FoK.
You absolutely need the fast
You absolutely need the fast 1.4speed dagger for your offhand for assassinate now. Save up for the fast wrathful dagger it will help in a pvp as well. In heroics I play around with Foking everything or spreading rupture on everything. Getting rupture on 2 or 3 targets gives you insane energy regen and is more interesting than just spamming fan of knives. FOK is probably better though. One thing you can do is tab around alot this lets your autoattacks stack up deadly poison on multiple mobs quicker so that if you fok them and get a dp proc you'll get extra instant poison procs. I almost always use DP on my thrown for this reason. Really though in heroics these days you can't do too much against the likes of frost dks or mages they just blow shit up w/out any real prerequisites whereas you need to keep your SnD up, rupture up, DP stacks and start from stealth as much as possible.

I'm still using combat. I enjoy the play style of combat and dislike the others. My dps is pretty good, if I'm not top of the charts all the time, I can live with it.
