I hope to be involved in rated BGs come Cata and I hope NO is there with me.  It seems that many people seem to hold atleast some level of interest.  For this reason many nights we have been doing random BGs.  Due to the way premades are setup we typically will setup at a maximum of 5 people.  I generally will try to call out if I'm doin random BGs and invite people along.  I just wanted to mention here that I'm not worried right now about winning much if you've never pvped or if you feel you "suck" at pvp if you have any interest at all in coming I would love to have you along.  Nothing will prepare you better for rated BGs than to just jump in.  Of particular importance is communication.  Practicing calling out info that will help your team is very important.  Getting used to playing with a cool head and sticking together is also equally important.  These are skills that will not magically appear for you once rated BGs hit.  These skills need to be practiced and honed now.  I encourage anyone joining in for some BGs to put out an invite to the rest of the guild.   Group up together get on mumble and just talk about the bg while playing it.  Learn from the chatter what helps you and what doesn't and use what does.  In rated BGs teamplay will trump individual skill, learning to work together now will be a huge advantage come Cata.

I"m interested

Maybe we could have a rated BG night ala a Raid night that you'd like to lead for us Pox? I know that I love PVP with the guild, even if it irritates the heck out of me when I'm alone. I think we could definitely have a fun time if we have at least one night of rated BG action.

I enjoy PvP, but hate the general fail of the people I get stuck with. Premade and rated BGs are a whole different creature than just queuing on your own. For example, you won't have 10 different people telling you 10 contradictory strategies.

Back in the day when people would listen, I did a good job picking up the reigns and organizing a BG PUG. I ran a mean AB and if people listen would win 9 times out of 10, and I know NO knows how to follow directions. So if you need someone to help lead on the nights I'm available, or to just keep quiet and do my job, either way I'm in.

You know me!

You know I'm down for BGs, also comp (compositon) isn't going to be nearly as important in rated BGs as it is in Arena, but still having key roles heals, tanks (depending on what map we're on) and obviously DPS are key. If you don't run BGs that often, then you don't know how sexy healers are in BGs, at times, they will make or break a BG. But it's something to keep in mind, to have a single person with multiple chracters that could go depending on what we need. Again, it's not nearly as important as a raid or arena, but it helps immensely.

It's also partly the reason I want multiple 80s, besides the benefit it gives us in raids, it can help as well in BGs/Rated BGs. I've been trying to preach rated BGs here and there to people and it seems like more of the guild is interested in it that you think.

And Cile I feel your pain, I use to dub myself the General of BGs, trying to preach strats, tell people to spread out, hit so and so, dont fight on the road, etc, etc. But I got so sick and tired of either the BG trolls or just the lack of cooperation, I for the most part stopped and started worrying about my own ass.

I'm down for some bg action. the few times I have made it to group pvp were great, even drunk pvp proved to be more successful than randoms thanks to the great level of communication ( at least between guildies).

That being said.. is it woth the effort to grab full wrathfull gear now or save up honor for whatever comes out post-cata?

Honestly...especially with resil...

I'd go all out now, especially since you can currently get Wrathful now (with the exception of shoulders)...I'm not sure if it'll change come Cata, but most likely not, since they always offer last seasons arena gear as 'current' normal PvP gear.

I'm sure some will disagree with me, but the way I look at it, its better to start a new season or xpax with 1300-1400 (Roughly 40% damage mit.) resil than 500 resil (Somewhere between 10-20% dam. mit.). Although resil doesn't count towards crits anymore...it's still resilence.

Out of curiosity

Why premades of 5 people instead of 10?

Because if you have 5 people

Poxumbra's picture

Because if you have 5 people or less you aren't placed against premades your just basically in the normal random que.  Once you convert into a raid the matchmaking will find you other full on 10 or 15 people raids to fight.  Typically they will be a pvp guild that does this sort of thing every night and will squish any unprepared group like jelly.  This is one of the main issues with doing BGs on our drunken pvp nights.

It also makes queue times

It also makes queue times suck even harder.

Spending Honor

Poxumbra's picture

I personally would just spend it on Wrathful the next arena season wont' be until 2 weeks after Cata which means the worst case scenario is about 5 weeks of use.  I wouldnt spend a ton on gemming or enchanting or atleast I'm not cause I'm saving for flying.  Likely once the next season hits they will devalue the honor you have by  giving alot more per BG and increasing the cost of PVP pieces to match.  Getting your set bonus and around 1k resil will put you in a decent place for survivability.  Mixing in some nice raid pieces will give you a leg up in alot of BGs since many random BG players are not raiders.

I usually pvp a fair amount when I get to AV levels. I'm not good at it, but I'm happy to bring a healer or whatever. Most of my characters have at least some level 80 pvp gear. My priest has more.

So yeah, I will give it a try.

sounds like fun

You guys know I'm in, also to those people (if any) on the fence about doing pvp in the next expansion, I'd definitely say give it a try with a guild group now in wrath before we hit the weirdness that is fresh expansion pvp.

I dunno...

I think we really need our Shamen to be totem spec'd for PvP.
