Proper Use of the Guild Bank

We've posted this information before, but I think it may be time for a refresher. We're collecting a lot of crap again. As a general rule, if you don't need it, don't want it, can't find a use for it - odds are no one else will either.
Tab 1 = Free For All. Quest items, rep items, holiday items, low-level armor, patterns/recipies/plans/designs etc. Anything you want to give away so that ANYONE can take it, put it here.
Limit the armor to epics of any level, all blues above level 80 or blues below level 80 that don't have an equivilant BoA replacement (i.e. chests, helms, weapons, shoulder storage subject to space available). Limit the other stuff to items that aren't commonly available on the AH or from a vendor for cheap.
Tab 2 = Consumables. Potions. Stat foods
Low level food / fish / meat. If it's below level 70, just vendor it. Lots of people make lots of food to level cooking. But we just don't need to keep it all. If it's a 90 stat, 90 stam food, that's great - please contribute more. If its a 60 stat & 60 stam food, its useful for LFR and running heroics or even just leveling - feel free to use what you can and deposit what you have extra. If it's below that, its just not worth keeping around.
Tab 3 = Tradeskills. Cooking meat (cata levels). Enchanting mats (pre-cata). Ore/Metals (pre-cata).
Very low level shards are worthless (Glimering & Glowing Shards, large and small). Every Enchanter will get a stack or two of these just DEing the greens you get when questing and leveling, but there are 0 useful enchants that use them. You cannot sell them on the AH for fractions of a copper - you can't vendor them either. Just have to DELETE them.
Tab 4 = Tradeskills. Gems of all levels except uncut cata blues/purples. Elementals/Eternals/Crystallized/Essence of/Motes - the pre-cata crafting elements (used by multiple professions)
Tab 5 = Enchants. Item modifications. Darkmoon Faire cards
Tab 6 = Glyphs
Tab 7 = Herbs for current raid flasks. Food for fish feasts. (only Highland Guppy, Fathom Eel and Lavascale Catfish - the rest go in tab 3)
Tab 8 = BOE lvl85 epics (at or above current level heroics). Expensive current tier crafting mats. Rare mats from previous expansions. Lvl85 epic recipes. Raid flasks. Crafting mats from raids. Volatiles.
Tab 1 can be accessed by anyone, regardless of rank
Tabs 2-6 are limited to people with Authenticators at Bolshevik rank
Tabs 7-8 are Officer Only
Please don't clutter up the guild bank with stuff that's commonly available on the AH for a few silver a piece. I'd much rather give every guildie who's starting to level tailoring 50 silver to buy all linen cloth they need instead of devoting 2 guild tabs just to hold the mats.

Actually
I'd like to point out that quite a few of the low level items are very costly and golds, not silvers just because no one farms them anymore. The same with low level green gear with good stats and bags. If you have an 80-85 that can farm you can afford to spend some but the items are not always available. Would it really hurt to have a tab for lower level stuff? I know I deposit higher level trade and consumables on the 1st tab so people like me who haven't been promoted can access them without interrupting others to go grab the stuff.
I don't quite understand the reluctance to deal with the GB. I held the position of guild banker for almost a year in another guild that decided to transfer to a PvP server. It took me, maybe 10 minutes a day to vendor or auction off excess or unclaimed items. We had a JC and an enchanter who had access to a tab where they cut gems and DE'ed for mats to keep us stocked. The excess was sold. We did make you as the GL for raiding gear and the highest level items and they had to be asked for by in-game mail. This let him keep tabs on who was contributing in raids and who was just there to gear up and leave. This kept the work load light for everyone and maxed play time. Now you do have to have trusted, proven people in those positions but there doesn't seem to be a shortage of those in NO.
Just some thoughts on the subject.

We have 4 tabs for low level
We have 4 tabs for low level stuff, not couting 5 (enchants of all levels) and 6 (glyphs of all levels)
Agreed - some of the lower level, need to have to get skill ups, sorta things can be really expensive. I sell Illusion (L60), Arcane (L70) and Infinate (L80) dust for more than I sell Hypnotic dust (L85) - few people farm the mats, so the AH price is always high if not down right hard to find. I would very much so encourage anyone to use the GB for stuff like that. But, but comparison, Strange dust (L10) is available from vendors and always on the AH for cheap - no reason to stock it in the GB.
I don't think there's any reluctance to deal with the GB. I do just about every day (at least every day that I log on) - many other people do too. We just have to be smart about it. If you want to store enough mats to allow 1 person to level a profession from 0 - 60, that would fill an entire tab, and it would take another tab to go from 60-85. Instead we try to keep only the donated items that are hard to find or expensive. Some of the mats fit that boat - some don't. I think I keep an eye on this server's economy about as well as anyone. If you think I'm junking the wrong stuff, let me know.
I thought Tab-8 was the fish
I thought Tab-8 was the fish locker...

Guild bank
I know from what I've seen that the guild bank can get somewhat crowded, and I agree that low level materials can fill it quickly, but I also see Arahila's point as well. When leveling enchanting I was extremely short on Wrath materials, and they were crazy expensive to get from the AH. It would have been nice to simply reach into the GB and plow through it. However; the sheer quantity of mats needed to level one persons enchanting would take up an entire tab, and there is no guarantee that they wouldn't sit there for weeks or months. Plus the management required to keep everything in order really doesn't constitute 'fun' in my books.
I'm a bit of a pack rat, I have two bank alts to store things I 'may' have use of some day, even though I've pretty well leveled my professions with content and they'll never be used. I have enough gold to keep me happy (mostly...) but if people post on the forums that they need something, I can contribute for greatly reduced prices (or free if I'm feeling generous and like you enough).
If my ramblings have a point, I agree with Mage in that the guild bank should remain free of low level items, and if you need low level mats, ASK! Make a post on the forums, as in guild chat, if you need a service, I'm sure someone in the guild can handle it. With a guild our size I'm sure lots of people can contribute. If you're not comfortable with asking people for stuff for free, you can probably still get them for a significant discount. Just my 2c.
"...the guild bank should
"...the guild bank should remain free of low level items, and if you need low level mats, ASK!"
Quoted for truthery.
As has been said, the mats for all tradeskills could fill all 8 tabs. I know I keep trade goods in the personal banks of my various alts, If you're having problems getting specific mats make a post, thos that have excess in storage can get them to you.
this.
I have boat loads of old enchanting mats. mostly LK, but other stuff as well. I also have a ton of various cloth too.
I'm a packrat too
My bank toon is stuffed... that's after maxing out his bankslots, bag, and personal 6 tab guild bank. Bhuta's usually near capacity too. I've been wiped clean a time or two due to hacks, so many of my vanilla mats are gone. But I've got a ton of BC stuff from grinding my D3's and a little of everything else from leveling mining and engineering from 1-525 recently. I'm getting ready to call it quits for a while so if anyone is feeling needy, let me know and I'll toss goodies your way.
Don't I Know It!
I have a bank alt and an alt with that was given a bank just to pile up materials and such. It's great to see more people offering to help others out (will take you up on that Avel.) I know I gave Cooldude a bunch of Wrath enchanting mats he was looking for since my enchanter hasn't gotten quite that far though she is now generating Wrath mats with her DEs. Herbs are a problem as many pre Wrath herbs can been very high and it sucks to have to farm stuff all the time. I am starting to run out od room to store lower items and will have to create another bankalt soon, it's cheaper than the largest bags for Ara and the alts.
Faramiran can make both Rogues and Swords decks for DMF rep, I will start putting a few in the GB.
