Panda Time Travellers

Read something that I found humorous...
So the new Panda starting zones start in the future AFTER the Cataclysm. A new panda will level up to approximately level 10 in the starting zone. Then they'll travel back to the main continents (Kalimdor and Eastern Kingdoms) where they'll travel BACK in time to fight Deathwing as all the content there remains as the new content introduced with Cataclysm. Then at level-ish 60 they'll travel FURTHER back into the past to Outland to fight the Burning Crusade and Illidan. Then around level 70 they'll travel to the future to fight the Lich King in Northrend. Then again to the future where they'll fight Deathing again. Then finally to the present of Mists of Pandaria where they'll be caught back up.
Ain't Time Space a bitch sometimes?

Why does
Blizzard write this stuff??
Don't forget travelling back
Don't forget travelling back in time to fight Malganus with Arthus in Strat. Makes total sense in WoWland.
Too bad they can't bring some awesome lazerz or nukes back from the future. That would fix a bunch of problems me thinks.
Hmmm...
Panda Jedi FTW!
This is incorrect. The
This is incorrect. The starting area occurs before the Cataclysm (or right at the beginning of it). Remember the starting area is NOT part of Pandaria. This makes it internally consistent with the current main world setting. There are still the temporial inconsistencies with Outland and Northrend that everyone experiences while leveling though.
Hmm
Where did you read that? What I read was that the zone is basically simultaneous with right after Deathwing dies, as the Skyfire has crash landed there, supposedly brought down in the last battle with Deathwing. So the Pandaren zone essentially is coterminous with the Dragon Soul Battle at best, if not slightly in the future of the present time.
And yes the temporal inconsistencies are what everyone faces, except each expansion it gets another layer weirder. Someone starting now in the goblin zone would level up in the present until level 60 and then go back in time to BC, then forward to Lichking, then back to the present. In the next patch that will remain the same for any other races including goblines. Pandas however will add in that additional jump from their present starting zone to back in time to the current leveling areas, and then an additional hop to the future from the present 80-85 zones to the 85-90 zones.
It's just a funny result of how things have gotten built.
To make things time-consistent...
... they'd have had to go back and significantly rebuild the game, to the point where most of a new expansion's development time would be spent "fixing" the old content's time frame. I'd rather they just gave me new stuff to murder in the face with an axe for shinies.
oh no
I mean I get it. I just think it's funny. Particularly because they don't even bother to try and explain it with a few extra quests like "ok now you're gonna go back in time to fight the burning crusade". Like have Chromie somewhere passing out quests at the end of the Pandaren island, and then around level 58 and then around level 68 etc. Not even one syou NEED to do, but just have the dude there in various places passing out "ok time to send you througha time portal" quests.
Spock panda....
Maybe the pandas can just go back in time with Captain Kirk, Spok, Bones and Scotty to San Francisco....pick up a whale bring it to the future and save everything.
At Blizzcon it was explained
At Blizzcon it was explained that the pandaren who we will play have been seperated from the main island for generations, which is why they don't have the allegiance to their homeland, and thus are willing to choose between helping the Horde or the Alliance, it also means they've been traveling the world since long before the cataclysm. Chen Stormstout was likely among these pandaren, which explains his role in the events of WC3.
I'll buy that...
For the most part that sounds good. Excelpt all of a sudden there will be a shit ton of pandas all over when there were none for years. Not even Chen Stormstout. I bet once this xpac drops there will panda guards, panda quest givers, all sorts of them all over Azeroth. Just sort of odd to go from nothing to having them all over the place.
Obviously
A m****r f*****g panda bomb is about to go off in WoW. You'll all be getting t-shirts that say, 'I survived the pandapocolypse and all I got was this lousy t-shirt!'
By the same token the same
By the same token the same could have been said of DK's & Worgens in outland. Any added race would be applicable, and if the only alternative is no more races then I'm all for inconsistant timelines.
It reminds me of Star Trek lore issues.
I think the problem is the
I think the problem is the assumption that the starting zone and Pandaria are the same place. They are not.
The starting zone is a turtle island that left Pandaria 10k years ago.
I do believe you are correct, that Pandaria is immediately after Deathwing and that is where the 85-90 level content is located. That is completely seperate and different from the 1-10 Pandaren starting zone though.
seriously...
why are you debating about a fucking starting zone timeline in an expansion that hasn't even hit beta yet? Let. It. Go. Wooosah...
Rofl
gooosfraba
This starting zone?
The one with the Skyfire crash site clearly marked? The Skyfire which is used during the final battle with Deathwing?
http://www.wowpedia.org/The_Skyfire
I think it's pretty clear the starting zone of Pandaria occurs AFTER the Cataclysm.

Ah ha! You are correct. I
Ah ha! You are correct. I thought the Skyfire crashed on the main island. Thanks for the info. :)
