I'll guarantee the glows only show up at higher graphics settings. It's a good thing; means we don't have to stock up on flares to guide people to positions.
Those are replacing the current coloured smoke flares for the game UI, not replacing the "Kill the Skull First" markers. Likely so you can say, "Drag the Square.... to the Square".
No more so than having a few Hunter's Marks out...
