I can hear the rage...
... from here. I on the other hand welcome our new fuzzy giant-racoon masters.
So the pet battle
So the pet battle system...Pokemon anyone?
That appears to be exactly
That appears to be exactly what it is.
Your non combat pets can be named and abilities given to them.
You can collect more pets in the wild a'la Pokemon.
You will battle PvE or PvP with your pets
You can have a party of pets, and use 3 per battle
pets can have hold items (a'la Soulsilver)
There will be "masters" around the world (Gym Leaders) who will award "master abilities" for your pets (TM/HM)
THIS IS GOING TO BE SO AWESOME
Fuck
Well, I'm done. I just can't take this shit seriously anymore.
We were supposed to be taking this seriously?
Well hell, I've been doing it wrong then. I thought talking cow-men and people wielding weapons bigger than their bodies and monsters made entirely of mouths was the realm of fantasy... in addition to the fact it's a game, minor point I know. :)
I'm fine with humour in WoW
But an entire expansion based on it is asking a little much. "Seriousness" is relative. The examples people are throwing all over the place are "BUT YOU'RE FINE WITH COW-MEN AND SPACE-GOATS LOLOLOL".
Here's the thing. Tauren are your standard half-man half-bull. That archtype has existed in fantasy literature for a long time, and they were introduced well in WC3 as a race that had real character. We got to know them through WC3 and the expansion, and through the original WoW as a race that had a lot of backstory and importance in the world. Without them, the Horde would have been fucked.
Similarly with Draenai. Sure they were ret-conned a little bit, but they've shown they played an essential part in TBC lore and had a lot of backstory involving the original corruption of the orcs. These weren't just a race of people from a planet where fucking farm animals was the norm, there was real tragedy and hardship that made them what they are now.
All the other races as well have been well established in the WoW universe. Just look at Goblins. They have a lot of humour surrounding them because they tend to blow themselves up. Does that piss me off? Of course not, because from the beginning that was what the goblins were written to be.
Pandaren? They're fucking karate pandas who were invented as a joke. They added the one hero in WC3 and some random creeps (which were just furbolgs) as kind of a "Hey you guys thought this was funny right? Have fun." but other than that they remained what they were created as - a joke. Now they're just throwing them at us saying "Oh yeah, these guys were here all along. We were completely serious about it the whole time." Using them as expansion just makes it seem like they've run out of good ideas. Could they write a story that brings them more in line with the other races? Sure. But at the end of the day, they're still goddamn karate pandas. It's hard to take regular pandas seriously because they're so goddamn adorable. Putting them in waistcoats and funny hats makes them more adorable. Them then talking to you and asking you to save the world kind of ruins your sense of perspective.
I mean:
Expansion 1: Fighting demons on a shattered world attempting to open a gateway to invade our home.
Expansion 2: Battling the leader of the Scourge who is raising an army of undead corpses to overrun the world.
Expansion 3: Conflict with the insane leader of the Black Dragonflight attempting to destroy all life on Azeroth.
Expansion 4: PANDAS!!!
And the "it's a game" argument is tired and cliched.
Expansion 1: Fighting demons
Expansion 1: Fighting demons on a shattered world attempting to open a gateway to invade our home.
Expansion 2: Battling the leader of the Scourge who is raising an army of undead corpses to overrun the world.
Expansion 3: Conflict with the insane leader of the Black Dragonflight attempting to destroy all life on Azeroth.
Expansion 4: PANDAS!!!
This part is a non-sequitor.
In the first three examples you used the theme/plot/conflict then in the fourth you used the new introduced race. By that logic, your post should have been:
Expansion 1: Space goats and gay elves
Expansion 2: Zombie Knights
Expansion 3: Furries and goblins
Expansion 4: Pandas
We don't know what the conflict is in the new expansion yet. The conflict or plot is not "pandas!!!"
Then they should be pushing that.
Instead of showing me a video of a panda punching a monkey and telling me to buy it.
Maybe they got Jack Black to
Maybe they got Jack Black to do the voice acting?
I agree. With BC and Cata
I agree. With BC and Cata the new races were an important part of the expac but not the main part. The focus was on the demonic invasion and world being destroyed. So far the focus for Panderia has been pandas. The pandas seem to be the main selling point.
PvE scenarios? Freakin'
PvE scenarios? Freakin' finally. I hope this is more modeled after GW2 or at least better implemented than WAR. New gameplay modes are always welcome. And Monk? Sweeeet. Hope the teddy bears aren't the only ones who can be one. Not into the fur thing.
Any release date?
Yeah, it looks like PvE
Yeah, it looks like PvE scenarios are basically Warhammer public quests (or like Rifts in Rift)
Here is some more info on the pandas.

My Thoughts
I was reading the offical
I was reading the offical page this morning (http://us.battle.net/wow/en/game/mists-of-pandaria/) and seriously, I kept thinking 'Wait, it it April 1st? There's no way some of this is real.'
With a free copy of D3 with a 12month subscription, I hope it comes out before 2013 though....
Yeah
I was also thinking "man they're fucking with us. This can't be real".
And honestly other than "Pandaren!" "Monks!" the rest of it is kind of blah at this point. He talked up WAR alot in his preamble to the video, but then the video is all peace and hippie pandas doing tai chi and not much else. I grok that people are excited to play Pandaren. Hell I"ll stay signed up just for it... But I gotta say I'm pretty dissapointed with the utter lack of epic goings on.
You know what would have been awesome? A full expansion of fucking full on war utilizing phasing in quests to have even cities like Orgrimmar and Stormwind fall to opposing forces. Have the whole fucking planet burn in war....
And then end the expansion with both sides in tatters at level 90 and the Burning Legion re-invading... DA DAAA DAAAAAAAAAA
Hmm...
I had always wondered where the term "Jumping the shark" had come from. It now makes a ton of sense and I was reading how Happy Days was considered by many to be over with and on a steady decline after the "jumping the shark" episode. You could be right Tal, this may very well be the end of WoW. Everyone always said the only game to kill WoW would be in fact itself. I sort of like the idea of the monk and the panda thing is growing on me but the talents and the rest with the Pokemon pet thing is just a bit much.
Put it this way
This is the point where they're obviously milking the cow for all it's got. You can argue where the actual peak was. I know some people felt Lich King disapointed, and others Cata, but hitting the Pandaren... It's a blatant milking, hence why I'm saying they're jumping the shark. They could have gone with The Emerald Dream or battling the Burning Legion more directly, but instead... Panda Monks...
Sorry folks. I'll be playing it and making a Panda Monk... but unquestionably this is the shark jumping moment. When they played that video at the opening ceremonies. It SCREAMED it to me. They might as well have had Fonzi in the video.
I thought they were never
I thought they were never going to release Pandarians due to legal issues in China.....
Well
That actually got brought up during a Q&A session later. The exec they spoke with indicated it wasn't going to be an issue.
Mounts
What mounts will the pandas have?
Maybe a beer cart pulled by a yak?
!
Well. Their passive is Bouncy.
So.....
BWUHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!
YES!
I want some Pandarian Gummi Bear Juice so I can bounce my happy fat ass all over Azeroth!
!
I think that's why Pandarens are widely renowned as brewmasters. Berries are fruit. Fermented fruit juice turns into alcohol. Pandaren ale is, in fact, alcoholic gummy berry juice.
I think
I think Blizzard is loosing their touch! BORING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WTF?
So, they are getting rid of talent trees too?
I guess they are changing warlocks, shamen and druids also.
Be afraid, be very afraid.
The new talent "trees" are up
The new talent "trees" are up on MMO champ. They could not be more cookie-cutter.
All the talk they gave about how it would make specs individual, and yet these look like they'll be even more generic than what we have now.
I agree with you.
From what I get of it you get to pick one skill every 15 levels. So essentially we will get 6 talent points to pick and an option of 1 out of 3 to choose from every 15 levels. Seems a bit odd to me, I'm hoping it isn't as bad as it sounds.
I don't see anything to be
I don't see anything to be exicted about for the mage talent trees.
This honestly looks more like a f2p set up then an honest mmo.
That's exactly what I thought.
Even Warhammer's system had more depth than this.
I don't see these going live.
This is a concept thrown out to see what people might like and dislike about it, and the overwhelming negative response so far is certainly going to resonate with Blizzard. My bet is on a tweaked talent set-up similar to what we have now, not this grand departure that is cookie-cutter at best.
Negativity
I just want to point out that the reaction to all of the news in the actual conference hall was overwhelmingly positive. The Pandaren and Monk class especially got HUGE cheers, as did the "pet battle" system. There was also a lot of positive reaction to the overhaul of talents.
Grain of salt though
It's Blizzcon.
Rob Pardo could've gotten on stage and said "I devour the souls of infants to achieve immortality" and would've gotten a huge round of applause.
Well its about time! I'm
Well its about time! I'm glad they removed all that "thinking" from the process. Now I can grind without having to worry that I'm slightly less efficient than everyone else! TBH they might as well make it like this. Since the talent change the builds were fairly linear anyway. This way they can have the same cookie cutter but less of the geeks who sit there and stare at talent calculators, mumbling and sweating profusely as they have minor panic attacks over whether an expertise change would give them 0.005% more dps or not.
Bah Humbug!
I can get behind the Asian/Chinese theme. We've done dinosaurs, bugs, zombies, elves, nordic, Native American, Egyptian and a few others I'm sure. Ancient far East seems like a nice design view. But the rest of it... Oh well, maybe I'll just level to 90 then play D3 for the next 2 years.
Reminded me
of Guild Wars: Factions.
Damn that game was good.
(No subject)
:) But seriously...
There's lots of negativity. Seems like a third of the guild is saying "wtf pandas" another third is "wtf talents" and the rest are shrugging or excited.
I'm excited. Primarily because the game is stagnant and aging poorly at this point. Plus the Cataclysm expansion, which sounded really cool ended up petering out really fast. They need to pump life into the game, and they need to fix shit. Having a talent tree with multiple talents that no one uses, but just uses cookie cutter builds is a shit system. I'm excited to see if they can fix it. Maybe, maybe not. But it's not working now, so I'm not seeing the harm.
As for pandas? I'm surprised they put them in, but I think it's pretty neat. Asian theme worked for Guild Wars, and I'd rather there be pandas than kung-fu humans. Plus, the monk class really excites me. (I still want a bard, though)
I'm really excited about the pokemon thing. It will add a fun mini game into the meta game to play around with, and it's completely optional.
I play games to have fun. Comedy and lighthearted stuff is way more fun than SUPER SRS BUSINESS. That's why GTA can blow me, but I can't wait to play Saints Row the Third. I've always enjoyed games that joke around and have puns and funny situations because it's entertaining. Considering that for the past 5-6 years, when WoW has been trying to be SUPER SRS and the end result is writing that would make Shakespeares horse fall over dead... I'm really looking forward to a change of pace.
Of course, whats-his-5'oclockshadow did keep going WAR WAR WAR EPIC OMG WAR.
So it probably won't be as lighthearted as I'd like.
Seriously???
You of all people post a picture of some cheese to go with everyones wine?
Thats rich coming from the guy that bitched and moaned everytime someone even mentioned SWTOR and always yelled, "OMG I get to play a blue person or a red person...WAAAAAAAH!" Your post putting your foot in mouth taking everything back was delicious though.
But this comes out and you are excited to play Pokemon in WoW.
Thats just funny shit! Thanks Tart.
I think the monk class is pretty neat, won't keep me personally playing this game much longer but its neat. The pandas, yea, I'll make a monk panda sure. The talents? No, it blows and needs to be shot now. The Pokemon? Give me a fucking break, if people want Pokemon go play it on your DS or whatever.
This post was unnecessarily
This post was unnecessarily rude. If you don't agree with someone that's fine, but debate the issues and ideas posted, don't attack the poster. There's no reason to turn this into a flamewar.
Ok, thats how you feel. I
Ok, thats how you feel.
I didn't see anyone defending any posts of mine that got attacked when it concerned SWTOR though or when it was talked about in any guild chat and they got shit upon. I'm not turning anything into any flamewar. I've stated what issues I have with the new xpac. I guess its fine for others in the guild to attack other people and they don't have to do or say anything but then others are held to a higher standard. Whatever.
Oh, stop it.
Yeah, when people posted about SWTOR, in threads that asked things like if people were excited etc, I said I wasn't and I said why. Because I didn't find it interesting, mostly because the race options were boring (and still are).
On the other hand, I actually gave the game a try (in beta) and enjoyed it, and it changed my mind.
If you didn't notice, I put a little ":) but seriously" Which meant I was being sarcastic, but as long as you're in FLAME ON mode I've seen multiple instances where you've overreacted to someone not finding SWTOR to be the BEST THING EVAR OMG and getting extremely defensive, completely overreacting. People not liking Star Wars is not a personal attack on you.
Knock it off already.
...
I thank you for pointing out my shortcomings Tart. I shall knock it off.
Catching up to EQ2?
The screenshots of Pandaria all look very attractive, they do a great job with the game world and the solo questing with every expansion.
The panda-people and the new monk class do seem like rather desperate attempts to keep fickle players from defecting to a certain upcoming game. That said, I am sure I will try both.
I am pretty disappointed with the talent system changes, it looks seriously dumbed down. I can't imagine the hardcore raiding crowd will like it much. It looks hard to tinker around with.
I find it bizarre they chose to have a "pet combat" system; the one EQ2 introduced five years ago was derided by EQ2 players as a half-baked pvp system no one liked or used. It only went into the game because EQ2 had no battlegrounds up till that point and was abandoned almost totally when battlegrounds did appear.
By the way, the panda-people made their way into EQ2 last year as the Hua-Mein, though not as a playable race.
From someone who was there
From someone who was there it's very exciting. I don't know how many of you sat through all of the details, but there's a lot more to this than Pandas.
(just have to point out... Furbolg, Tol'vir, Tuskar, Wolvar, Snobold, Murloc... can anyone suggest Blizzard has been inconsistent in its use of anthropomorphism? Yet no complaints that any of these don't belong in the lore or Warcraft.)
When I first came to wow it took me a while to get over the art style, I hated it. Overscaled/underscaled body parts, really ackward uses of colors. I'm still not a huge fan, but the way they've adapted those styles to fit improving graphics has really impressed me, and the scenes from Pandaria are no different.
Did you see this shot of the bad guys..
What about that is furry and peaceful?
Did you see the Sha?
Did you read through the changes to Warlock? Pretty awesome stuff happening there with the different specs.
Cross-Character Achievements
Level-Based innate resilience so pvp is easier to get into from the beginning.
Dungeon Challenges that will net you unique appearance pieces for transmog.
The typical talent system is changing, but I can tell you after seeing it through it's for the better. Basically you're given the spec as it's intended to be played (and would have been played anyway), then you're given 5 additional choices that have broad and meaningful repercussions. What's that compared to some of the choices (or non-choices) you make now looking at the trees?
Pet combat system? How dare you add more content Blizzard, my vanity pets are not permitted to do more than follow me around senselessly.
Also want to mention that although they did start out talking about the ramping up of the war between the horde and the alliance they mentioned that it was the beginning of a ramp up that would span the next couple of years, which would suggest the following expansions as well, not just what's going on in Pandaria.
The game will continue to be epic and engaging just as it has always been.
On a side not the one thing I've wanted from the first day I started playing wow is coming true, I'm locked in just for finally getting it.
Well Im pretty excited for
Well Im pretty excited for the new expansion.
To be honest, the only thing I don't like is that I won't be able to see my SUPER AWESOME SCYTHE on my back anymore. :'(
Hate to point this out....
One thing people seem to forget is no matter the choices they give us for the talents.. it will ALWAYS end up cookiecutter due to the fact that people will theory craft, practice and come up with the best builds for all the specs and within a couple months everyone who wants to raid or get content done will all have the same build. It's unavoidable just like in games like FFXI back in the day yes you could be any main and any sub but if you were not certain subs with certain mains you were laughed out of parties nd you would NEVER seen end game content. It's human nature to find the best way to do something and expect everyone to follow suit. I have never seen talents in wow not be cookiecutter. " Why did you take that paladin that's not going to keep threat." " Mage your DPS will double by taking this talent over those." It's always been this way there has not been a time when serious end game content did not lead to cookiecutter specing either by request or by seeing someone else's character outshine your own and you take their build to improve yourself.
!
Eh. I remember in vanilla and TBC where there were plenty of nonstandard, but viable talent combos. A lot of the little things were based on personal preference - do I want to move faster in stealth, or have a shorter cooldown on stealth? There's always a "best" build, but to be perfectly honest, most of those are only the "best" by a margin of a few percent. Combat Swords might have been 1-2% higher DPS than Assassination at one point, but that didn't mean Assassination builds were useless.
It's the ability to choose that's pissing people off. I can't go 7-13-21 or something anymore, I have to build 41-0-0 or 31-10-0 or some such. There's no ability to come up with gimmicky builds that work phenomenally well in very few circumstances, or to pit your own creativity against another player's. Now all hunters will be largely the same, and exactly the same within specialization. You will never see a shaman or rogue tanking a raid boss now, when two expansions ago it was perfectly possible to do so. Even at the beginning of Wrath, it was fully possible for an Enhancement shaman to handle tanking Naxxramas - in the efforts to homogenize, it's been made completely impossible to do crazy things like that anymore.
This is Zee's wife, Darwina.
This is Zee's wife, Darwina. I think this new expansion looks HILARIOUS. Gummi berry brewmaster bouncing panda ninjas FTW! I am totally signing back up when this comes out, purely for the comedic value.
I don't have anything to add in regards to game mechanics or aesthetics or any serious discussions. I just think it's going to be quite funny, and I am looking forward to bouncing around and giggling like a schoolgirl with you guys when this drops!
This is Zee. I don't like panda's or the change in game design. Every step of the way WoW has gotten further and further from the ideal that I enjoy. I'll resevere final judgement for the end product, but I don't have high hopes. It looks a lot like a F2P game, and I hate those. As it stands right now, I will not be getting this expansion. Most of the new features hold no interest for me, and a few of them are downright bad imo. A new continent, talent system, pandas are the three things that I dislike the most. The other features mentioned spark no interest in me. I have tried to find something that sparks my interest but I haven't.
I just find myself being disappointed, not angry or rage, but dissapointed.
Being disappointed by change...
.. before it occurs? I felt much the same about Cataclysm before I actually played it. Oh well. You'd better hope SWTOR doesn't fizzle like Rift, Warhammer, STO., Aion, LOTRO, etc.
Also, the conflict is supposed to be Alliance vs. Horde, as opposed to Lich Kind, DW, Burning Legion, etc.
I don't see how its
I don't see how its unreasonable to be dissapointed by change before it occurs. About half of the people on this forum are dissapointed in the changes that are happening. All the changes are right up on MMO champion, we can see what they are planning to do.
Besides, I believe I stated that I would resevere final judgement to see how it is implemented but that I don't hold out much hope.
As for the SWTOR comment, I don't know what you are attempting to convey with that.
Sheesh
So much QQ... :P
Not that those of you complaining, etc. aren't entitled to it. You are. But at the same time - give it a chance before you get all "OMGWTF BLIZZ I AM DISAPPOINT YOU JUMPED THE SHARK /RAGEQUIT." Overdramatic perhaps but at the same time, give it a chance?
Pandaren - Yes they began as a joke. But they've also been one of the MAIN requests they get from players every time they're asked for new things. "Are pandaren going to be playable?" "When do we get pandaren?" "Why can't we be pandaren?" Well now, we get to be pandaren. Obviously enough people are excited about it that Blizzard felt they were worth introducing in an expansion. And if you don't like the idea of pandaren? YOU DON'T HAVE TO PLAY ONE! Because...
Monks - Did I say you don't have to play a Pandaren? I did. All of the races except Goblins and Worgen can be Monks. Rejoice! Also, how cool is the monk class? Tank/dps/healer/DRUNK. I am really interested in learning more about the healing style since they said they wanted Monk healers to be the kind of healer that can get up in the melee and hold their own (not damage-wise but survivability-wise.) And it's NOT a hero class! they have a 1-90 experience like the rest of the classes.
World Raid bosses - I've barely seen this talked about. They wanted to bring back world raid bosses to help get people back out into the world. They also want these bosses to help provide incentive for open-world PvP (lots of cheers from the pvP'ers in the crowd when that was mentioned.) They also talked about the raid boss loot being cool stuff that makes them worth going after.
Scenarios - these are not like Warhammer public quests or Rift's "rifts". They're a slightly different animal. They'll be instanced, be for as many as 3-25 players, and will be something you can queue for. They'll be staged and have certain objectives, and from the sound of things they'll have them available regardless of your level (so you can hit up a scenario at lvl10 and then the same scenario later at lvl90.)
Dungeon Challenges - more ways for PvE'ers to be competitive! Timed dungeon challenges. Normalized gear, so you can't go in and simply overpower the content. Rewards, gold/silver/bronze medals. Leaderboards so you can check your progress against other players. They want players to have more ways than just raiding and PvP to feel competitive with each other.
Pet battle system - speaking of competition...yes I know it's basically Pokemon. And judging from the devs reactions as they introduced it, they know it too. But the reactions to this news in the hall were definitely delighted. I'm excited about it. It's an entire game within a game, and mini-games within the larger meta game are a cool thing, IMHO. Plus, more ways to compete against each other. And now pets will be account wide? And tradeable? How cool is that? I think it's pretty cool.
Foundations of War - everyone's talking about how silly this expansion seems, and on the surface yes I suppose there is a lot of lighthearted silliness to it. But it's also been pointed out that this is the tip of the iceberg. There's been a definite insinuation that this is only the groundwork for much larger plans. Chris Metzen was particularly beating the "war" drum, and I expect in some of the Q&A panels later, more information about that will come out. There is a definite sense of this being part of a larger plan, which is why all of the complaints about WoW "jumping the shark" and grasping at idea straws leave me shaking my head. I haven't had that impression at all. They've talked about the conflict between the Alliance and the Horde, and the fact that Pandaren start as neutral and have to choose their side is pretty big - it makes the separation between the factions very "real". In BC and especially in Wrath, there was a lot of working together to overcome the Big Bad. They've moved away from that somewhat in Cata - each side is licking their wounds, trying to recover from Cata, but in some cases we're still working together to overcome some Big Bad. In MoP, there is no Big Bad. WE are the Big Bad. So the focus is getting turned back around on us, our conflict with the Alliance. Personally, it leaves me feeling really curious about the direction they will go with this, and how it lays the groundwork for future conflicts between Horde and Alliance. Could we also see some factional imbalance? Could the Horde or Alliance see fragmentation occur? Could this be the groundwork for a third faction, like say if the Forsaken and Blood Elves leave the Horde? What about the Alliance? Could some fragmentation happen there? It's all very exciting what the possibilities could be, at least in my view.
Talents - I love the direction they're moving talents in, and I think it lays a good foundation for them to build off of. I don't know how many of you have actually looked at the talents, but if you haven't yet, you really should. The idea with the talents is for them to be situational, preferential, and easy to switch as needed. You'll be able to change in and out of them like you would glyphs, and while some might seem more suited for a certain role, they're intended to be situational talents that you can choose based on what you'll be doing, what your role might be, etc. I like that. Yes I am sure that the theorycrafters will be hard at work picking out the "best" talents to choose from, and to some extent you may not be able to avoid some cookie-cutter decisions. But overall, I like that they are trying to give players some more choices in the talent department.
Class changes - remember those "quality of life" survesy they asked us to take on the forums a while back? it looks like they listened, since some of the changes people asked for were made. Druids getting 4 specs? Hunters only need ranged weapons? No hunter minimum range? Shamans not having to just be buff bitches? I expect we'll learn more at the class Q&A later.
Future expansions - It really feels to me like they're trying to push expansions out faster (actually they might have said that.) This exnapsion already has a lot of the art assets complete (which is big since art is often the thing that takes the longest) and I think they were talking about this being released next spring? So again, tip of the iceberg, more to come, etc.
Anyway, if you're really bummed about the news then I guess you're really just bummed and there's not much that can be done about that. I'm choosing to be excited about it, because I think there's a lot to be excited about, and I am really interested in seeing how the rest of the exansion's development plays out. :)
Man, I am SO BUMMED...
...that I'm race-changing Warfury to a pandaren. :P Fat Fury For The Win!
I think it sounds ridiculous
I think it sounds ridiculous (As I've said elsewhere), but not a 'ridiculous I'm not going to play', more of 'they lost their mind but I'm willing to see where they go with this.' I do enjoy my nonsense as I'm sure Claera can attest to.
Personally I'm disappointed by the talent changes. From Vanilla through Wrath everytime you leveled you got a point to spend and make your character a little more powerful in the way you like. Each level meant something. With cata I was origionally on board with having talents every other level as they'd be more powerful, but that along with not having to train in ranks has actually made leveling up feel less meaningful. "Ding! Oh wait, no talent this level and no new skills to train, nevermind then..." Ya, the numbers get better everywhere, but it's all behind the scenes and dull. Now I only get to make a choice every 15 levels? Not going to break the game for me, but will make leveling less fun.
As for the War between Alliance and Horde, that's never really interested me story wise. Every time they've conflicted it's either been uninteresting or insanely stupid (re: gunship). Maybe they'll come up with an interesting way of doing it, but what are the raids going to be building up to? Maybe in 5.3 Horde will be able to kill King Varian, and Alliance will be able to kill Garrosh (And we'll all be cheering for them as they do it.) That would be epic. Currently most places where you encounter the conflict feels more like petty squables that don't go anywhere. That said, I enjoyed the quest chain in stonetalon mountains, so give me more of that and I can see getting behind it.
I'm not against anything they're doing, but I'm not exactly jumping at the bit either. Sure, you say the people at Blizzcon are excited, but that's only a sampling of the population that goes to Blizzcon (and are already excited to be there.) For me personally though, nothing is really wowing me yet, despite finally getting my drunken chineese panda. I'm going to play it when it comes out, but I'm not going to be starring at the relase date on my calender willing it to come sooner.
Don't get me wrong.
Don't get me wrong. Everything sounds cool except the Talent changes. I'm not yet sold on it. SWG spoiled me I guess. Any system that seems to give you less choice feels like a step backwards. And maybe I'm also shell-shocked from SWG because every time there was a "major character development change!" in the works, a little bit of you died inside.
Actually the new PvE stuff sounds great. My only complaint is why hasn't it already been in there. I think this might be a response to the details of GW2. As SWTOR is poised to compete head-to-head with WoW (why BioWare choose to I'll never know) by copying and throwing some glitter on it, GW2 looks to out-innovate WoW. So here we have, freakin' finally, some dynamic content coming. I was just recently drawing up a short document about how WoW could use their Dungeon Finder system to create dynamic PvE scenarios for all levels with large and small groups. I was going to post it around and hope it gained enough support for devs to notice and maybe give them some ideas. Looks like they read my mind and my thoughts were directly from looking at what GW2 has coming up. If this new PvE content works out well it will really make me like Blizz. Companies that can innovate and not just put out the same rehashed crap over and over again are worth supporting.
Jumping the Shark doesn't mean Ragequit
I think this is the jump the shark moment but I also watched Happy Days till the bitter end AND watched every episode of Joni loves Chachi... So you know... That's me...
And it's not like there doesn't sound like there's cool new stuff in this expansion. Of course there was cool stuff in this years EverQuest 1 expansion and the last Ultima Online expansion had some neat thing sin it. Point is that WoW will probably be releasing many neat new expansions for years to come.
it's just that Jumping the Shark is sort of that moment where the brand/show/game isn't growing anymore, and it's really just prolonging death. Sometimes the majority of the life of something is AFTER it jumps the shark as long as enough people don't care. Jumping the Shark doesn't mean "ragequit I'm done". It just means "Ah well the best is behind us, now we're settling into our golden sunset." People have been playing the original everuqest for 10-11 years now. I fully expect people to be playing Warcraft in 5-6 years (heck I'll probably still be playing) but it's prime I think, it's peak.. is now passed.
And yes it's partly because of the Pandaren. They did start as an april fools joke, and everyone squeed, and we knew that they'd probably NEVER release them as a playable race, but if they did, it would be to milk the game for all it's worth. Anyone who says otherwise is either lying, or misremembering, or in a very very small percentage of people. If you asked people back in BC which patch would have Pandaren theyd' ahve said "oh I hope the next one, but it'll probably either be never, or when the game is going downhill in order to keep people interested."
so now we get them and there's much rejoicing because people have wanted to play them, but glossing over the notion that they'd only play the Pandaren card when they knew they needed to game the system a little bit longer. If you had asked me 1-2-5 years ago when Pandarens would be introduced, if ever, I'd have said the above. I'd ahve said I'd pay to play a pandaren brewmaster, but we won't see them till closer to the end of life of the game. Well, to me this release means we're looking at the end stage of the game. I expect this means the next Blizzcon will show us not only the next wow expansion after pandaren but will show the next gen MMO which will take center stage, you'll get it with your wow annual pass you just bought (ala the sony station pass) and you'll keep your wow subscription along with the new game whatever it'll be. Mark my words on that one... They want you as customers paying monthly for the rest of your lives. IF they have 10 million people paying 15 bucks a month for eternity to play Blizzard games, they'll be very happy (but they'll try and grow that number as time goes along)....
Anwyay...I'm not cutting on anything specific in the expansion. I'm just noting that it's a turning point expansion.
Frankly I am not happy at the
I would also like to apologize for my previous comment and locking the thread.
I just saw this thread going the same way as SWTOR and the drama that happened with that debate and wanted to stop it before it exploded.
I didn't mean to offend anyone and I defend my action, but I apparently came across as an asshole. That wasn't my intent and I apologize.
.
I'm moderating my own post. I don't agree in locking the thread but it wasnt appropriate for me to undermine another officer publicly. So my apologies to Zee.
Pandas seem cool...
I can't wait to play a panda monk, I don't dig what they are doing with the talents or the Pokemon stuff but I do like everything else.
I have reserved the name of Skâdoosh for my kung-fu panda, and no that isn't a joke I really did reserve that name. :)
dude the pokemon stuff is
dude the pokemon stuff is sweet, but Ive always been gay about collecting pets and shit, my wife reminds me sometimes. And yeah, I don't understand the talents at all. I wish there was more clarification.
" but Ive always been gay
" but Ive always been gay about collecting pets and shit,"
Sorry, but i must request that you refrain from using perjoratives such as this in the future. It is considered insulting and derogitive among polite company. No, I am not homosexual, but I do not appriciate seeing language like this on these forums.
Thank you for your consideration.
Can't Decide - Laugh, Cry, Vomit Or All Three?
I WANTED PLAYABLE MURLOCS!!!
Ok, now that I've said that, I guess having 127 pets gets me a head start on one thing at least one thing. I didn't get to Blizzcon but got a Murkablo as a gift. He's bad. Also spits out a smoke ring and jumps through it and has a reverberating gurgle.
The culture looks cool but a panda? Don't know that I can play one. And, gee, who do I delete to even do that? Need a couple more character slots since I can't afford another account.
Bother. Now we get to kill Deathwing and I haven't even gotten toasted yet on Arahila. Two alts but not my main.
I will continue to play because I enjoy a lot of aspects of the game and I don't see a problem having a race or two to play just for fun. Would have been nice if there was two, with one being more serious. Of course, murlocs could be serious. And if we are going to pander to the masses and choose races like the Worgen due to outside influences like Twilight, then do things for the GAMERS as well. I know several adults who play with their kids (age 12 and under) and the pandas will be huge with that crowd. And if I know that many, I am in terror of the actual numbers! ROFL.
So, I think I will start a topic called Xpac Wishlist.
Seriously Peeps
There was a couple of us that were concerned about how this thread is behaving so to speak. We ARE a guild and as such we are a team. Please refrain from getting too personal, using words we would not use in gchat, and out right attacking other people's posts. Debate all you want, just keep it polite please :)
My thoughts
Just thought this song was perfect for the thread. Its off an english gameshow I used to watch when i was younger.
My thoughts on the expansion.....
Its Exciting man! why complain it hasnt happened yet, and look what happens every patch and every single expansion: people worry and complain that thier game is gunna be ruined! Well if it is, then we can find another game!
Talents: They look pretty wierd and nonsensical to me but hey, have you ever heard me raid lead? LOL!
Panda's: Pretty awesome design, i mean, draenei's=spacegoats and bloodelves are HATED by alot of people, but pandas? Theyre so cute and cuddley! Plus i guess they would be awesome at fighting, and if they arnt then fuck them panda's I still has a trollololol!
Pokewow: Well, 2 awesome games in 1 WTF could go wrong? you dont like it dont play with them, but for those of us who have played pokemon avidly and have been addicted to singing the theme tune around the house, will be happy and everyone should be happy for them.
Monks: AWESOME! Another class thats able to tank heal and dps! It might knock the pally off its pedestal! (those buggers). But seriously though, druids and pally's should have a third who can do what they do! And we all like playing or playing with pallies and druids so thats gunna be benificial to our raids to have more heals tanks and dps'ers
The new dungeons: Scholomance and Scarlet monobrow! OMG this is the most exciting! I love those instances, plus the new ones look awesome too!
Listen, all im trying to say is, if you dont like what your hearing, turn off your podcast and play the game you pay for every month and do the things you love doing in game.
If your literally weeing your pants with anticipation of 5.0 then join the club, but dont argue your points to try and change peoples views.
Everyone has issues with what the game they pay for changes into, but honestly there will always be a solution and its not a cause to be inflamatory.
*pours tea and gives out pot brownies to everyone*
Smile, ye daft twats!
xx
p.s I would like to add that getting talents every 15 levels is a bit poop, but i see why they did it, cus all the levelling crutches we use to go faster to max level, means that we level 3 times per dungeon with rested XP and heirlooms and guild bonus's + holiday bonus's. So see, theres an explanation im willing to accept. but still Boooo!
