Give the series a chance, if you can get over the slighly strange animation style ( I actually like it now ) it is a awesome (as we as very depressing) series. This is more than you typical fighting just to get more powerful so the hero can more kick ass anime, it actually is more drama oriented and less action.

Oh and if your wondering why Kikaider looks not like your typical cool looking super hero robot, thats just the point. He isn't. He is ugly and he knows it.
