For some, buying presents for members not of the immediate family is alittle difficult. Gift cards to whatever store, restaurant, etc are a wonderful idea but I thought of providing a few ideas not on the main path. Basically, you can donate to a specific foundation, from the ease of your own home, in the name of that person.

http://www.warriorfoundation.com/---- foundation to help soldiers injured while deployed. Funds rehab, medical care, rehab back to civilian life after injury, the cost of family members to visit their soldiers while at the hospital ( family members get a reduced rate while visiting but some soldiers' stay is over a year long ).

http://www.starregistry.com/ ---- basically you buy a star and name it. I bought one two years ago for my Grandfather for Christmas...He still proudly states his name will live forever ( usually after the third glass of wine during holiday dinners)

http://www.humanesociety.org/ ----I am sure everyone knows about this organization. Honestly and without hesitation, I know more animals I would rather spend time with than people. This could be because I live in New Jersey or I am a Eagles/Flyers/Phillies fan. I've spent the better part of 42 years figuring out which part is true

https://www.savethekoala.com/sponsorships.html ---Some people like the idea of helping something or someone that lives far away. I sponsored two Koala's for my mother and grandmother for a year last Christmas for one of their presents. They were sent pictures of the Koala, you can choose which one to sponsor, and updates on the animal's welfare.

For those people that are buying new cell phones for individuals in your family or know of someone that is getting one, you can give them a few ideas on what to do with their old ones;

http://www.helpguide.org/mental/domestic_violence_abuse_help_treatment_prevention.htm ---a site for abused women. This is a national website but if you care to locate a regional website/office you can go to this link to find one in your area (http://womenshealth.gov/violence-against-women/get-help-for-violence/resources-by-state-violence-against-women.cfm)

http://cellphonesforsoldiers.com/ Cell Phones for Soldiers is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing deployed and returning troops cost-free methods to communicate with family while serving in the United States military

Just a few ideas for people who might have Santa's block on what to give as presents this year for Christmas. During this time of year wth the constant bombardments of new products, sales and discounts , the meaning is sometimes lost. No matter what creed, nationality, religion, sex or ethnicity you might fall under, compassion and kindness to those less fortunate are sometimes the best gifts of all.

If anyone cares to reply with other suggestions, please do not hesitate.

The wife and I have been doing this for the last few years. At first we werent sure how people would react but everyone really appreciated and loved it. We've done St Judes and a couple animal charities. If you do decide to make charitable gifts either choose a charity that may mean something to the person who you are giving in the name of or yourself. Dont worry about sounding wishy washy or sappy Linus err I mean Cal, if you cant get away with it this time of year then when can you. =P
