Hunter Tips: Beth'tilac

I got to listen in on the raid tonight working on Beth and could tell there was some trouble dealing with the Cinderweb Spiderlings. I know from personal experience they are a pain to manage at the best of times during the encounter. I did some theorycrafting and made made of couple of adjustments to make the adds soloable for myself. That's not to say I don't appreciate occasional help from others, it helps soften the buffer between each spawn, which is only 30 seconds.
Spec:
I did the encounter in both MM and SV standard specs measuring the success of the CC/DPS options of both. Neither are stellar alone.
My first thought was that SV with Serpent Spread and Entrapment would blow away the spiders. I ran into a couple of problems, the entrapment and serpent spread worked great, but the spiders constantly got really close to the drone. The problem was that the ice trap only triggered when the spiders where on top of it, so basically they rooted for 4 seconds, then were only slowed for half the width of the ice trap. I could then root them once more with the snake trap, but that meant they were rooted for a total 8 seconds, then had about 5 to 6 seconds of snare leaving me 15 to 16 seconds of them running full speed at the drone. Also because I used both traps I would have to wait for CD's to use traps on the next group of spiders.
When I tried MM against the spiders I picked up Concussive Barrage hoping the constant snare would buy me more time. The snare worked great, but again the spiders would creep all the way into the center before they were all dying. The less costly multi-shot felt better on the move, but with the extra damage procs MM affords I often found I killed the spider I was targeting almost too fast leaving me to have to retarget mid casts, time loss never good for damage.
After one of our nights I came up with a compromise that I have come to find extremely helpful in this encounter.

This gives you Entrapment and Concussive Barrage, so you're snaring them from the moment you're within range, and you have as many as two opportunities to snare, but I've come to find I don't need a second, and only keep it in reserve. Having Bombardment makes the pace of combat very smooth, rhythm can make all the difference in the world.
Macros!:
As simple as they are, they will increase your damage unbelieveably. Replace your Multi-shot and Steady Shot with the following.
/tar Cinderweb Spiderling
/cast Multi-Shot
---
/tar Cinderweb Spiderling
/cast Steady Shot
As spiders die you'll just roll to the next one with each attack not losing a single beat.
Concept is just as simple, have on Aspect of the Fox and at the beginning of the fight start spamming one of them, watch your radar and with the new target marker you will immediatly know which side they spawned from, run to that side and spam your multi-shot, once they're snared drop your explosive trap, walk backwards just a step or two and drop snake trap. The spiders will hit and trigger explosive shot, then immediatly be rooted in its effect for 4 seconds, all the while be casting multi-shots until you're dry on focus, cast steady shots until you're back over 20 then multi-shots until you're dry, that's all your rotation. Drop traps as soon as you effectivly can with each group of spiders, the sooner you use it the soon the CD is up for the next group, but also try to get the traps close to the groups, the faster they die the faster you're ready for the next. Don't worry AT ALL about other adds. You should be going from group to group with little to no down time.
What you'll find doing all this is that other raiders are free to focus down the drone and spinners instead of taking away one or two other dps to assist with your job.
Once you cross the phase point the rotation is normal MM offering stong dps through the end of the encounter which is just as critical given the soft enrage.

this will also likely help
this will also likely help with the magmaw spiders. I'll set it up. Thanks,Cacc!
who?
there'd this noob hunter come from? That's a shiny ranged weapon you have though. =D
Very Helpful.
This is very helpful indeed. I saw this fight for the first time tonight and wow it's a tad hectic.
I had the right spec but what I see now is I really needed those macros. They will significantly increase my efficiency in this fight next time in there((hopefully tommorow night)) lol
if they'll give me another shot at it. After only 3 attempts I can already see the fight slowing down a bit. Those damned spiderlings don't stand a chance next time heheh.
One question, is there a way to macro the trap launcher with a specific trap or will that still be a two click action regardless? Only question I have for now, will ask if anything else comes to mind.
Don't use trap launcher, run
Don't use trap launcher, run in front of the spiders and just drop the traps, you'll lose significantly less time than triggering the launcher and aiming. You only have 30 seconds to keep up with the spawns, time is your worst enemy, every moment you can reclaim for damage gives you an edge on the encounter.
Running faster?
I'm surprised by that. I would think flinging traps would have been quicker. Hey you've done this fight more than I have so I guess I'll give it a shot. heheh
I really like the idea of stringing out the three traps for extra slow down on the little guys
Thanks for all the advice. It's gonna help me get this down quicker than winging it on my own. I think I'm gonna watch videos of the fight just to help it slow down visually.
I did notice they don't have an agro table so I just have to try to keep myself between the little guys and the big guys.
another thing.
look around and see where the downstairs tank has the drone, since they'll be bee lining towards him. I usually try and keep the drone just south of the where the healers are bunched up. I don't have to move it too much but I don't know if that screws cacc over since they spiderlings may not walk over his traps.
I just watched...
I just watched the video for this fight on Tankspot and I feel even better about this fight.
What I didnt hear/see in video .Do the Drones need to be moved? Whether it's because of an AoE ability or whatever. Can they be kept in one spot? If they don't need to be moved it would be even better, that way it's easier to get myself between Drones and Spiderlings.
there are a couple times.
initial pull to me and making sure it's not pointed at any one other than me. Sometimes I have to move to taunt down one of the hanging spider adds, and of course if some of the drones start getting close I'll pull away from it. But for the most part I try to keep it in one spot.
Anything but Pack!
You're being pelted by the spinners sometimes, as well as Beth's AOE, so pack is out. You can use the disengage as you finish one group and flip around taking advantage of the speed bonus that talent gives you. Any other speed bonus wouldn't hurt either.
As far as the adds you're always going to want to try and slow them (multi-shot to set the daze effect) as close to their spawn as possible. If you're being attentive and running toward the spawn as it starts you'll aleady have to go a little ways out of the center group to get that first shot off, this in of itself will pretty much put you in your trap setting position. Get your shot off, set your traps then just focus on doing steady shot, multishot steady shot multishot. You should easily be getting the 20 focus cost proc so it shouldn't take more than that to get a constant stream of multi shots to burn them down quickly and keep them dazed.
Also, just go for string 2 traps, let ice trap be more of an oh-shit button. Snake trap will have the same rooting effect over the same area with some added crappy damage, but it's more crappy damage than ice trap does, and you gain no extra benefit from the ice itself. Your traps are on the same cooldown as the spawn, so if you fire all 3 in one spawn you'll be waiting on timers with the next spawn, and it will get progressively worse with each spawn. You're going to face this with the explosive trap too, just be sure to drop it as soon as reasonably possible and continue to do that with each spawn.
Did'nt know ...
I did'nt know that the Snake Trap had a slow effect on an area,I thought it was only on whatever triggered it.
Learn something new every day.
Concussive Barrage and Frost
Concussive Barrage and Frost Trap don't stack. The snakes have a chance to apply Crippling Poison, but again won't stack with Concussive Barrage. They do however still benefit from Entrapment which is really the point.
Biggest Help..
The biggest help from these posts is gonna be those targeting macros. My main problem was keeping Spiderlings targeted after one died.
Once again Thanks for all the help with this. I've only been with N O for a week and am having a ball running with you all. I was becoming very bored with WoW and I now have a renewed interest. So thanks to everyone for that.
Right on
I'm glad you are having fun and enjoying yourself! I wanted to say too that I really appreciate you taking an interest in learning your role for this fight and working to make sure you get the strats down. The dialogue happening from everyone in this thread leaves me feeling very encouraged about the success of a second group on this encounter. This trash has been pretty unforgiving, and having people other than Cacc or Gnome be able to handle it effectively makes a world of difference. So thank you! :)
My Pleasure
I'm always up for any advice to better myself , and anything I can do to make the raid as a whole better I feel is my obligation to you all. I don't wanna be that guy that people go aww damn we gotta take that Kreeg guy, he sucks. lol
Seriously though I don't take offense to people giving tips/ advice, it's all for the greater good.
Other Bosses
If there's anything you can tell me I should know as a Hunter for the rest of the bosses in here let me know.
Spiderlings Spiderlings Everywhere
The macros worked great,I was able to see where they were coming from much easier....Until I would fall behind on killing one pack and next would spawn.
Right now I'm working on bettering my gear so I can take em out faster. Collecting mats for the new 365 ranged weapon. Hit the AH up for the Truegold and Hardened Elementium so just gotta get it crafted. Gotta start getting back into doing dailies that stuff is expensive as hell heheh.
Just a matter of getting all that valor to get the next tier stuff. By the way wtf is up with all the hit on that stuff? Geez
One question. My cast time on Steady Shot is 1.7 I think. Do you trhink some more haste would be of any help for me here? That's without the haste bonus of Imp SS.
Gearing up.
If you need someone to tank/heal or whatever let me know I'm more than happy to run with guildies through heroics.
Your goal should be to get
Your goal should be to get your haste to at least 1235.
Use this reforge template, I ran you though it and it made a not inconsequential 3.5% impact on your crit%
http://wowreforge.com/?template=for:Hunter-Marksmanship,Hit=961+,Haste=1...
Keep in mind though we're splitting hairs when we talk about stat quantities/effects. Even all of this reforging will likely net you a whopping 400 dps. Assuming you're doing 17k average dps that would be 2.3% more overall. There are few things you can do in terms of gear that can come anywhere close to that significant a difference, but when you frame it in such values you really bring home the impact that developing skill has. Being more comfortable with the encounters and learning to time your actions/reactions better will serve you far better than upgrades/reforges.
