Although I am sure almost any ramen can be substituted with this :)

This is a big block of fatty bacon love, just slice it up and fry it up :)

Spicy hot ramen goodness.

All I did after frying up the salt pork was cut it up into tiny little cubes. I just added it to the ramen with the hot water and huzzah! The salty bacon goes awesome with it and doesn't take away or ruin from the taste of the ramen :)

Hey Waka?

Xyro's picture

Why did you name your DK after that cup o noodles?

You have it backwards good sir

Shinwaka's picture

They heard about the awesome sexiness of Shinzon and named the ramen after him!

Well played, sir!

"The salted pork is PARTICULARLY delicious"

Irullan's picture

After seeing ponyo eating her ramen liek this- I started adding ham and egg etc to rauthas. Salty and delicious.

I keep forgeting to add egg!

and add some scallions too :)

SPAM?

Xyro's picture

This thread is making me more and more hungry....how good of a substitue do you think Spam would be?

I'm not sure if spam would work

Shinwaka's picture

although if you have it on hand I guess it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. You could let us know if it works then :)

The salted pork can be thick, thin, cubed or whatever bacony goodness you want it to. Just depends on how you like it in you ramen :) I am kicking myself for not trying it out earlier.

don't worry

your heart will kick your ass for you. I wonder how much salt you ingested with that meal.

So?

Shinwaka's picture

They eat this with all kinds of evil goodness all over Asia more than I ever do and they are fine :)

Yeah...

kibito's picture

It's not all prepackaged over there. It's fresh noodles and broth not freeze dried noodles and flavor packets.

totes

Yeah I feel kinda bad when it takes me 45 minutes to make my soup, and 3 to make rautha's, but he doesnt know the difference so why would I want to waste the mushrooms and miso paste?

More than likely

Shinwaka's picture

ANY kind of broth (whether fresh, canned, or in packet form) is a salt mine (yes I know you can make low salt broth but somehow I doubt that a ramen stand is gonna do that)

Take for instance miso:

However, miso is also relatively high in salt which can contribute to increased blood pressure in the small percentage of the population with sodium-sensitive pre-hypertension or hypertension.

But it also says this about sodium as well:

Based on the other results of double-blind controlled studies of sodium and hypertension, there is no definitive evidence that high sodium intake leads to negative clinical conditions such as hypertension in healthy persons.

But anyway I would GIVE my big toe to have one of these locally, I would defintely be a frequent customer :)

I am lucky though

Shinwaka's picture

that there is a kick ass Vietnamese restaurant that serves some awesome Pho soup locally :)

*drools*

do want. also, in re:miso- i go out of my way to get more salt in my diet. Ill have to snap some pics of the delicious pho place down the street from us... we live in the vietnamese district mainly for the food.

Please Do!

We are have a growing Vietnamese community here so hopefully will be seeing some more restaurants.

As it is though I had Pho last night for take out, had it with rare steak and some well done brisket. They also give you a packet of bean sprouts, leafy veggies that are still on the stem (too cool), these little nuclear peppers, and a lime slice. The green onions, meat, and noodles are in one container and the broth is in a separate container. Half the fun for me is putting everything together :)

killing me!

Irullan's picture

Man that sounds good. Our place doesnt have brisket that I know of! I am confined to tofu, but luckily they offer a vegetarian broth and all the spices and herbs you put in are so fun! The first time I took rautha there he was uber skeptical and kinda gave me this "wait, I have to assemble my SOUP!?" face but oh man once he tried it (he normally gets the pork) he was hooked. I am officially really hungry and ready to pick up pho on the way home.

Well a cup of those noodles

Rejad's picture

Well a cup of those noodles is 1350mg of sodium and 1 serving of that pork is 1000mg so roughly about an entire day's worth in one go, depending on how thick you slice the pork.
