Herald of the Titans - Please update your character

Holycow's picture
in

Who would be interested in levelling some characters to level 80 and xp locking them to get the Herald of the Titans title?  It requires killing Algalon in 10 man mode with only item level gear that comes from Ulduar 10 man.  That is Item Level 226 on armor and 232 on weapons maximum.  We could use level 85 toons to help the 80s gear up, but only the 80s could do the Algalon kill for the title.

Tanks - Kibito (Paladin Protection / Retribution), Cacciatore (Paladin Protection)

Healers - Ikuri (Shaman Restoration / Elemental*), Relmiste (Priest Holy / Discipline), Libentina (Paladin Holy)

Ranged DPS- Limper (Hunter*), Holycow (Druid Balance / Restoration*), ??

Melee DPS - Rejad (Death Knight Frost / Blood*), Azial (Death Knight Frost)

OH I am SO up for this. I

OH I am SO up for this. I love the idea of the challenge, rather than going in with 85's and spanking it near easy enough. Would we need to select roles now? or just level up with dual spec and go from there?

I have a couple alts...

kibito's picture

I have a 75 pally (prot/ret) and a 70 warrior (prot/fury). lemme know soon so I don't level either past 80. =)

Hmm

Ikuri's picture

The only alt I have at 80 where it would be easy enough to get that gear is a hunter, however I suck at dps. So I'd probably be better off either leveling my druid or shaman (both 60), or making another priest (since we know I rock at playing priest). Cacc also has a pally at 80 still (I think) or I could let him play my hunter since she is on a seperate account.

Let me know what would be best. leveling the druid or shammy would be faster, but I know how to play a priest infinitely better.

seriously?

kibito's picture

How can you suck at playing a hunter?! It's so easy!!! And it's also so FUN!!!! Christ the things I can get away with on my hunter would piss me off if I weren't having so much fun doing it. Plus you have Cacc behind you helping you practice your aimed shot. *rimshot*

I'm pretty sure the achiev

Cacciatore's picture

I'm pretty sure the achiev could still be done at 85, we'd just need to go wipe up naxx tier runs to get sets of appropriate gear.

!

Tranquility's picture

Actually, 226/232 comes from Ulduar itself, and possibly ToC, so just going through the effort to actually unlock Algalon a few times should probably give everyone enough gear. I think TOC is a step up in terms of gear but not in ilevel... but I'm not actually certain as to the overall gear req. I don't think level matters though, no.

The Achievement now says

Gargaren's picture

The Achievement now says "..at level 80..." so 85's cannot do it. I have a few toons I could level, just not sure hw long it would take me to level them up. Shouldn't take too long I would think with all of the heirlooms i have :)

Please post the character and role you would like to take and I will keep it updated in the first thread.

Prot Pally/Prot Warrior

kibito's picture

I'll lock her down when she hit's 80. If I get my warrior to 80 before we start this then I'll use him instead.

Erotaiccac is still 80, can

Cacciatore's picture

Erotaiccac is still 80, can tank or heal

I've got a level 70 rogue and

Relmiste's picture

I've got a level 70 rogue and a 70ish DK.  I also have a 64 holy priest that I've enjoyed playing the most.

I wonder...

kibito's picture

What do the BoA Cloak and Helm count as? B/c they scale up to 85... wonder if that could be a way to skirt around the ilvl requirement.

They count as 1, but they're

Cacciatore's picture

They count as 1, but they're only blue equivelants.. you'll replace them with proper level epics quickly enough

The thing about them

kibito's picture

is they scale to 85, so at 80 are they equivilant to a LK blue or a cata blue? If it's a cata blue then they would be far and away better than any epics from Ulduar.

Ok, I just looked up some Ulduar(10) gear and it's better than BoA at 80, the jump doesn't occur until 81 then primary stats double and teriary stats almost triple.

I'd be down to try this also.

Limper's picture

I have a mage at 72 I think and a hunter at 75?  I'll check tonight and see what I have that I could get to 80 and lock down.  What is needed most for this?  I could also try to power lvl my warrior tank also he is at 44 or 45 I think.

I think we are good on tanks.

kibito's picture

Looking at the list, there's me and Cacc who can cover tanking. We need dps and heals the most.

I'm a terribad healer at best....

Limper's picture

I do have a druid that is at lvl 58 I think but that could take too long to get him up to 80 as I'd have to get some heirloom gear for him to help out.

That leaves my 72 mage and my 77 hunter, I think if I push it and play my mage I can get him to 80 pretty quickly if a mage type would be more helpful to dps than the hunter.  I will start to level up Howler my mage tonight after work, I'm thinking of going Arcane for spec, but open to any suggestions on which one would create more dps at 80 over another.

I'm good with either one though.

I have a rogue at 72 and a priest at 80

Melindra's picture

and a young elemental/resto shaman--she's uh 33...lol. I don't do too well stabbing things, but I'm perfectly happy to lock both of them at 80. The rogue has heirlooms galore, the shaman has...a pair of shoulders I think? (two accounts, yes I have two). I also have a second paladin at 45 (two paladins, yes I have two). But I think I will just throw my priest into the mix and Iky can laugh at me. Or something. She's specced disc.

Tldr: Have priest, will travel :)

Cata Gems?

kibito's picture

Can we use those at all?

Nope

Warfury's picture

Even Cata greens require 285 ilvl to put in the socket.

I have...

Caerulius's picture

A level 65 warrior, a level 45 druid (currently working on) and a level... 33? warlock.  I can dps on all of these but only the lock could really heal for you guys.

I think you mean the druid...

Tumorbane's picture

or you're not exactly playing your lock right :)

This won't be easy

jak3676's picture

Overall I'll bet this is about up there with trying for heroic mode LK before any of the nerfs.  I'll be the number of guilds that get the achievment, world wide, is probably less than 10.  How many guilds got him down before ToC came out?  In current terms, this will be about as hard as doing heroic Nef now.

We do have a few things going in our favor though.

1.  We're using the new talent point systems - blizzard has said they're balancing these around level 85, not level 80.  For some classes/specs this can be a huge advantage because things are just plain broke at level 80.  Although for some classes/specs this could be huge disadvantage as things are just plain broke at level 80.  I think a key would be to find which classes have a unfair advantage at level 80 (I know arcane mages were obscene with 4.06 stats with level 80 gear).

2. Somewhat related to #1 is that we can pre-plan the perfect raid composition for this fight alone.  We don't need to clear firefighter, or knock, knock, knock on wood - we just need this single fight.  Any level of gearing, class combinations, specializations, etc, could be specifically tailored for this fight.

3.  Gear advantages (maybe - have to look this one up).  Not that we can cheat the item level, but what about enchants/gems/professional bonuses?  I know a lof of the new enchants and gems require an item level of 300+, but not everything.  Just looking on Magechick the enchanting and tailoring level 525 bonuses can be learned at level 80 and they don't have any item level or gear requirements - I'll bet the other professions are the same way.  I know my tank just maxed mining at 525 before hitting level 85.  For comparison - toughness, level 6 - mining 450, is good for +60 stamina, but toughness, level 7 - mining 525 is good for +120.  In Ulduar we were still using level 80 blue gems - would it be possible to use the level 80 purple gems that came out with ToC?

very good points, mage

Tumorbane's picture

Cata flasks require level 85 but potions and elixirs only require 80.  Feasts only require level 80 too so there's some advantage.

Since we have a couple of

Cacciatore's picture

Since we have a couple of other warrior/paladin people I'm going to go ahead and throw in my bid as a healer and start to plan on that. Maybe coming up we can start planning some different content run throughs to start gearing.

and Exp. capped. Btw the NPC is in Valley of Honor by the battlemasters. They are located in the same building but you have to go up to the top of the tower now.

My warrior is making good progress too. Anyone have any idea which would make a better tank for this? If I recall Algalon is ALOT of melee damage, not much magic damage save the big bang and those fireballs that shoot you up into the sky?

I'm guessing no mastery gems available or enchants, so any input from pally/war tanks would be really helpful here.

Shaman/Hunter

Ikuri's picture

Since I am leveling her up (66 now) I'm going to xp-lock my shaman for this. I can play her as resto or elemental. I'm also going to XP-lock my Hunter, just in case, since she is already 80 and has some of the needed gear. But I would prefer to take the shaman.

We need to finalize the list of who all is definitely planning to participate in this, and those people need to settle on their classes and roles. We are basically building a set team for this project, so once everyone knows what they are going to play, they need to begin working on their gear set-up. I figure Old Skool Nights are a good night to utilize for working on getting gear. Thinking we should make plans to hit up EoE, Naxx and Uld 10/25. We can also run on Sunday nights if people can be available.

One thing for sure is that this will definitely take a time and effort committment on the part of the people willing to do it, so please keep that in mind if you want to participate. We can't just waltz in there at 80 with whaetver gear we have. We have to have 226 gear for the most part, and some of that means running raid instances for drops. Food for thought!

We should strive to diversify

Cacciatore's picture

We should strive to diversify our characters/builds to keep gear overlap to minimum. As an example:

Tank: Druid and Paladin/Warrior/Death Knight

Healer: Paladin, Shaman, Druid

DPS: Hunter/E-Shaman - Mage/Warlock/Priest - Paladin/Warrior/Death Knight

This would fill 8 of our 10 slots with no gear overlapping. Obviously we can't be too picky, and we'll have to do alternating runs anyway, so some overlap won't matter, but just something to consider.

Shaman set

Ikuri's picture

This is what I have for my resto shaman set up. The gear can also double for elemental gear with a few minor tweaks if needed.

I'm currently leveling

Relmiste's picture

I'm currently leveling Bubbles towards 80 to XP cap him there, but I also have a number of other characters that can be played if needed.  Bubbles is disc/holy, so not a DPS listed in Cacc's earlier post.  I do, however, have a rogue, DK(Blood/Frost), Pally(Prot/Ret), and a Warlock that can be any type of DPS.

If you're placing me on the list, please do so as Bubbles or my Pally.   I haven't had much desire to play the rogue, DK, or warlock lately.

My priest is 80

Melindra's picture

and I leveled her disc from about 40 up. I would likely suck as shadow especially since I've never cared for it.  Sounds like you have enough healers already though. Have fun!

Mains helping

Holycow's picture

We shouldn't need to do EOE or Naxx.  We should be able to just carry a few alts each week into Ulduar and save on the headache of trying to run the encounters at 80.  The only time it has to be all 80s at the gear level is on Algalon.

Options.

So I can cleanup the first post, please put what class and specs (main and off if applicable) you will be bringing.  Does anyone know if Gargaren still plays?

Shaman

My Shaman, Taniya, is 80 and locked. Just need to start acquiring her gear :)

Haven't seen Gargaren on in ages

Melindra's picture

I could be mistaken, but I don't think they are playing right now.

Snot!

Limper's picture

I'm gonna bring my goblin hunter Snot.  He's lvl 78 right now and working him towards 80 as we speak.

Right now I am Survival spec but will more than likely go MM for all the fights.  I'll have to research it and talk it over with the pro hunters in the guild.

I have a 71 blood/frost DK,

I have a 71 blood/frost DK, recently added to the guild.  Would be down for this.  I have all the freetime in the world right now too, hah.

Still using bubbles.  He's level 74ish and is Holy main spec.  I'm tinkering with the idea of switching my discipline offspec to shadow for soloing.

Belt

Holycow druid is 80 now and locked.  Kibito, are you able to make Belt of Arctic Life?  http://www.wowhead.com/item=45556

Also looking for Boots of Wintry Endurance http://www.wowhead.com/item=45565

EDIT: Looking at the guild roster, only Thack can make them atm.

I don't have those?  Maybe I

I don't have those?  Maybe I just have the non-spirit versions.

I think...

kibito's picture

Samm and Tart picked up all the BS and LW patterns from Ulduar during LK. I think someone was selling them for super cheap.

Raids

Holycow's picture

From looking at the gear for my character (not sure if it is the same across the board) we should be running Ulduar 10 Hard Modes (including Algalon), Ulduar 25 Normal Modes, Vault of Archavon (for tier pieces), and ToC 10 Normal Modes for the most part.

Also

Ikuri's picture

ICC 5man heroics (believe they drop some 232 pieces we can use) and Naxx (some pieces there are pretty good plus we can run it with a small group - Cacc and I can actually duo parts of it.)

Cacc talking about himself in 3rd person?

Relmiste's picture

"Cacc and I can actually duo parts of it."

IKURI HAX0R3D your acct dood. You should change your password from abc123 to def456 and she'll never know.

/facepalm

Well I *WAS* signed in as myself but apparently SOMEONE logged me out and logged themselves in. -_-

Anyway, I fixed it.

Doh

Is it bad that I hadn't even noticed that Ikuri Posted on Cacc's account earlier. I think I am growing to anticipate that.

Keep in mind the 232 armor

jak3676's picture

Keep in mind the 232 armor (from 5-man ICC heroics) is a no-go.  The cap is 226 for armor. You can however go to 232 for weapons.

I know

Ikuri's picture

That's why I mentioned it. There's a shield that drops in PoS that is great for shamans and holy pallies and would work in case we can't get the one from Toc10

my priest savoir is like 41

Ophirrah's picture

my priest savoir is like 41 ish.  i could lvl him and help heal.  other than that my only other option is a 74 dk which i dont like to play (having a hard time getting the desire to go half a lvl so he can make truegold) and my lil 21 ish rogue.

Only thing we are missing atm

Holycow's picture

Only thing we are missing atm is a ranged DPS

I'm going to bring

Caerulius's picture

Maeles, my druid.  Still have a bit of leveling to do, but when are we going to try this?  Is it going to be on Saturday like most old school things?

Yeah

Ikuri's picture

We'll most likely be making these attempts on the weekends. Definitely on off-nights for sure.

Libentina and Zukanga

Tank/Heals prot or holy, i Really love prot so if anyone feels like they would like to change thier prefrence to heals then give me a shout, but I can heal too and i like that. Zuk has a Ret pally/ prot too. He wants to ret for this. :D

Caccedi Progress:

40% Preferred Gear
35% Supplemental Gear (sub-226)
25% Unfilled

75% Raid Capable

Taniya Progress

Ikuri's picture

I'd like to get a firm idea of the people that are actually 100% committed to doing this. A number of people have contributed mats (thank you!) to help this project, and I know Cacc and myself have been working pretty hard to get what gear we can on our own. I'd like to make sure any others that are committed to this are getting the help they need. I'd also like firm committments from those that are definitely able and willing to do this. I know a lot of volunteered, but I'm not sure how many are actually 100% dedicated to this project, and we're at the planning point where we need that info.

That said, all of my shaman's gear except for her trinkets is suitable for this project. I have a few ilvl200 pieces I would like to replace, and of course I need my trinkets, both of which drop in Ulduar (Hodir and Mimiron's caches.) So I need to run Ulduar. Most of the gear I want is from Ulduar 10/25, and there are two pieces from the last boss in ToC10 I could use. Then it's just a matter of needing enchants, gems, etc.

ForsakenLove

Lotsalove's picture

I'd like to add Forsakenlove to the project. She is a 77 warlock, I will have to to 80 in no time. And will start signing up for the oldschool nights.

Thanks Lotsa! For others, if

Cacciatore's picture

Thanks Lotsa!

For others, if you're among those who elected to go please clarify your intent, Class/Spec (your preference) so Holy can keep the roster updated and we can begin to clamp down on a plan. Certainly elect your willingness to pursue an off-spec if you'd like, but let us know what you want to do first.

If you're having second thoughts please let us know at least in game so we can plan accordingly. I'd like to see us begin to practice the encounter as a group at least within a month, that gives us at least 3 weeks of gearing runs.

Sorry but I'm going to have to bow out.

Limper's picture

I have recently been handed a business opportunity that I have to take full advantage of and it is dominating most of my free time at the moment.  The good news of this is if everything pans out right I will be able to quit my job with the City of Long Beach and pursue this full time as it looks like I may be able to make anywhere from $1,000.00 - $3,000.00 per week if done correctly.  This is going to be using up almost all of my free time though but if I work hard with it I will then be able to have Monday thru Thursday as my off days and only work Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Pretty sure this is already clear, but I'm out too

Melindra's picture

Good luck to everyone involved, I'll keep throwing mats your way. Got some real life stuff going on, not playing wow quite as much, but I'm still around :)

I'm still interested.

Caerulius's picture

Maeles is 73 and a cat druid.  I took some time off from the grind to do some pvp but I'll get her to 80 soon.

Professions FTW!

jak3676's picture

I was just looking at what options you'd get for maxing a profession while still at level 80.  You only have to be level 75+ to get past 475.  It may require you to farm mats with your main, but you can go all they way to 525 skill in a profession at level 75 if you want to.  The interesting part is that some professions appear to let you double dip from the benifits.

400 Blacksmithing will only get you +40 Int/Agil/Str or +60 Stam for 2x additional sockets - No further benifit by going further (you get 2x sockets, but can only use the old gems - lame)

475 Enchanting will get you +80 Int/Agil/Str or +120 Stam for 2x ring enchants

525 Skinning will get you +80 Crit

525 Mining will get you +120 Stamina

525 Alchemy will get you similar benifits to Enchanting - everyone can use the "level 85" potions and flasks - you'll also get some minor benifit from increased effictiveness of the potion(s) you use.

500 Tailoring will get you access to all the "level 85" embroidery which is 580 Int/15 seconds - 45 sec ICD for approx 130 Int overall.  This is +80 Int greater than the other back enchant available at level 85, but that requires iLevel 300 gear which isn't an option.  For your purposes, the best available back enchant would be +23 haste.  Even if Haste = Int for you class, that's still +107 stat points better.  Tailoring also gets you access to the "level 85" pant spellthreads as early as level 75. This is +95 Int & +80 Stam vs +55 Int & +65 Stam for the other enchant available at level 80 - that's another +40 Int & 15 Stam for a total of about 150 stat points better than not leveling a profession.

500 Inscription is similar to Tailoring where you can access the "level 85" shoulder enchant at level 80.  It's normally +130 Int/Agil/Str & +25 of a another stat, which is +80 Int/Agil/Str more than the other enchant available at level 85.  But when compared to the other level 80 shoulder enchants (Hodir), those are considerably worse - i.e. +24 Spell Power & +15 Crit for dps casters.  This can be about 120 stat points better than not leveling a profession.

500 Jewelcrafting is similar to Tailoring and Inscription - you can use 3x JC only "level 85" gems for +67 Int/Agil/Str each which is normally +81 points better than the other gems, but the other gems at level 80 require iLevel 285 gear.  The older level 80 gems were only +20 points, so 3x of the new ones is +141 Int/Agil/Str points more or about +200 Stam

Leatherworking should be similar to tailoring in that you can get easier access to the leg enchants, but there are notes on wowhead that the leatherworking leg enchants can be applied below level 85, but they will turn red and not give you the stat benifit - this is not true for tailoring, which doesn't make sense, but multiple posts confirmed it.  You can however emboss your bracers for +130 In/Agil/Str or +195 Stam which was designed to be +80 Int/Agil/Str or +120 Stam more than the other level 85 enchants, but you need to use those other ones on iLevel 300+ gear.  The older alternatives were's as good, so expect to gain about +110 Int/Agl/Str or +155 Stam more than if you didn't take another profession.
