I'd heard of Shankar before. Never saw any of his stuff. That clip was all kinds of awesome, despite being cheesy as all hell. Bollywood though, what do you expect but cheese taken to the extreme. They seem willing to try anything.
That actually looked surprisingly good, I figured it was a Bollywood deal. I just never knew they were making movies that looked so good, I just figured they were all kind of low budget.
Yep. It's the most expensive Indian movie ever made, also the most profitable. Hell, it even made a huge profit in Bollywood theaters in the US. There's one down the street from me, I totally have to see if it's playing there.
In heavily Indian populated areas, there are theaters that show Bollywood films, just as there are spanish film theaters in hispanic neighborhoods.
Thing about it is, these theaters make an excellent place for people of a particular culture to socialize and mingle. As we all know, the American dream is a myth and sometimes to get away from the difficulties of life, it's nice for people to be able to get away to a theater which shows idealized (well, perhaps not in the case of THIS movie) images of the home that they are used to. It's a great escape for people who suffer from discrimination and even violence.

Okay, with that said. Yeah, there's one down the street. It shows second-run films on a couple of screens and Bollywood films on others. There's also an awesome Indian restaurant next door.

As far as I can tell, it is not currently available (legally) on DVD in the United States. I'm keeping an eye out for it.
