The F-35 will be the jet fighter that all military branches will be using in the future, it will replace the F-18, F-16, F-15, and even the Harrier.

This clip is a world first for a jet fighter; the pilot did a short take off (becuase of the VTOL ability it has), then went supersonic, and then landed vertically.

Was pretty sweet looking when it landed vertically:)

This Clip is also Mission X

but has no music and better camera angles :)

it is pretty cool, it's mistaken alot for the Raptor.

I see both of them flying around quite a bit out where i live, edwards is just 35 miles away, and plant 42 is down the street.

i remember seeing the B2 after the public unveiling, all sweet to watch.

on a personal Note i felt the f-23 was superior to the f-22, but then again your weapons are built by the lowest bidder, then become more expensive as costs are overrun. there was talk of the f-23 being resurrected for naval use to replace the now retired f-14

I agree

The F-23 was a lot slicker looking :)

Not sure on performance, will have to see if I can find how it was suppose to do.

The big question is...

Warfury's picture

Why are we buying a new fighter jet when we're fighting a technologically-backward enemy who lacks any air presence at all? That's of course ignoring the fact that what we have already beats what even potential threats have in their arsenal. I mean, I like a pretty toy as much as the next guy, but considering how things are, it'd be reasonable to get some of the defense spending that's not actually DEFENDING us under control.

I know, I'm a dreamer...

cause we can...

and the old ones need new paint jobs..

You Have A Point War

Which is why we stop production of the F-22 (stupid expensive as they decided)

But the aircraft we have right now have been in defence since the 80's for the most part (with the exception of the Super Hornet).

Because there are several countries catching up to us

fiermi's picture

There are several countries that are actively doing R&D on military projects. They may not be up to where we are, but they are catching up; often with technologies that are strikingly similar to ours...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_budget_of_the_People%27s_Republic_...

Scroll down on that and you can see a chart with several countries budgets. Don't be fooled by the pure $ numbers. The US defense purchasing and contracting system is jacked up and full of graft and corruption. Many of these countries do their R&D in government owned and controlled organisations so their costs are far lower.

Some potential future enemy technologies that are getting close to ours:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chengdu_J-10 <-- chineese fighter that is scarily similar to the F-16. There are plans/rumors of a J10-B that will be sold to Pakistan.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Future_Chinese_aircraft_carrier <-- The Chinese are apparently building an aircraft carrier that will sail by 2015

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shenyang_J-XX <-- And apparently they are working on stealth technologies as well.
