Ok so I have my main spec of the new crap as Resto. No question about that....But I don't know what to do about my offspec.

I have enough justice points to get a full T9 set of Boomkin gear and use the +hit pieces I need or get just a few for the set, add some off pieces, and go with my offpsec as Boomkin. Or I just use the gear I have and go Bear again.

See my plan originally was to go Tree and Boomkin for my two specs in Cata, with my Boomkin being both dps and pvp , with my resto as just PVE. Was planning on scraping up the gear from quests and stuff to have sets for both as I level so that when I hit 85 I'm ready to go into dungeons as a healer, and build both my tree and chicken sets, as well as my new chicken pvp set.

However I have a ton of bear gear just sitting here, and sometimes it's nice to have a tank, you can do certain quests as a tank spec you can't do as a dps spec or a healer spec....but really is that a huge issue? So a few group quests I ask for help from the guild, etc...

----

so should I just junk the bear gear and go Tree/Chicken now, and use primairly my tree gear as my chicken gear (lots of stats are the same, I'd just lack in haste and crit and hit) and level as that? Or even invest some justice points now in a few better pieces of chicken gear?

Or should I just get the bear spec and level with that until I have enough chicken pieces to take over?

I dunno.

I'm leaning towards chicken speccing and just not spending my points, and using my healer gear as the chicken for now when I need to dps. I'd suck on bosses but otherwise I wonder if it'd be fine. Most of the gear has tons of intellect on it anyway, I'd just have too much spirit instead of more haste/crit/hit. then I can replace into two gear sets as I go and save my justice points for level 85.

Chicken with a side of caveats

Not sure what bear tanking is going to be like now, but I think chicken would be a good choice. Try the spec out, run a couple heroics with the gear you have and see what you think. I know you hate dps queues, but there's usually someone on who will swoop up a featherbutt.

That's one of the main reasons you stayed bear for off-spec--you hate waiting as a dps.

Yeah

but healer queues aren't that long either honestly. Not as fast as tank queues, but fast enough. I was bear probably

1) Feral leveling and soloing (but could easily do it as boomkin also)

2) Tanking backup (never know when a tank is needed)

3) Speed queues for heroics (it's true)

---

I'm fine losing the bear spec. I can solo as boomkin, queue as a healer, and it's all good.

I'm mostly worried about the gear setup. Tossing my bear gear, and whether I need to build some boomkin gear in order to make it work in Cata.

you'r eright though. I'll spec as boomkin and go in with my gear as it is and see how I do.

Bear tanking.

I didn't run anything last night, but I am kinda loathe to do so. Until Cata goes live, I have all of 1 aoe tanking skill and that's on a 6 second CD and according to MMO got a 50% nerf to damage. I dunno, maybe I'll see if I can get some guildies to run something today.

On a side note though, I was checking out the new rotation as a tank.

The passive side of Berserk (lacerate refreshes mangle CD and makes it cost no rage) procs alot. You definitely want to keep a lacerate up as much as possible and that shouldn't be hard to do with Endless Carnage. I was running at about 52+% crit with that buff up. =)

Also, if you get an OoC proc AND the Berserk proc at the same time, hit Mangle after hitting something else (maul is what I tried to hit when I saw OoC procs) since hitting mangle will clear both procs.

I didn't seem to have much problems with Rage generation either. I was just attacking a training dummy I had enough rage to drop the occassional maul.

As for Boomkin, I think you'd do just fine in your resto set, there's a talent that converts spirit into hit for thunderowls. Yup, Balance of Power.

If I recall reading

If I recall reading correctly, the JP's will also be the currency at the outset of cataclysm for non-raid dungeons. If that can be verified it might be advisable to hold onto  your points, and use them to get a leg-up on your cataclysm gear.

Yes

That's true. You'll be able to buy blue level 85 gear with them. The Epic vendor gear will come from 85 Heroics and Raids I expect.

Well

Given how much lower stuff costs, my bet is that the new gear will cost a ton of justice points, and my meager alotment now won't mean much more than a 1 or 2 run lead. We'll see though. I won't spend em yet.

went boomkin

Earlier today on a test run I did 5500 dps on a raidboss dummy. I'm sure the 'real' dps'ers are higher, but that's not bad, no?
