First warning, before you make these really consider if you want to lose weight.  If so, this recipe is not for you.

Second warning, if you bring these to work, be prepared to be harrassed about making them for the rest of your mortal life.

Ingredients

  • 1 sleeve saltines
  • 1 stick butter
  • 1/2 - 1 Cup light brown sugar
  • 1.5 Cups Semisweet chocolate morsels

Optional Ingredients

  • White chocolate (reduce semisweet accordingly, mix, don't substitute)
  • Crushed nuts
  • Toffee Bits (doing this brings these cookies to the level of diabetic-joy-shock, proceed at your own risk)

Directions

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 400
  2. Foil a cookie sheet, and arrange your saltines in a tightly fitting sheet across it.  You want as little empty space as possible - either use partial crackers or fold up the foil to fill in empty space
  3. Melt stick of butter and combine with brown sugar, drizzle evenly across the saltines, being especially careful to go around the outer edge
  4. Pop the saltines in the oven for 10-15 minutes, watch and when the saltines are slightly browned and the butter is bubbling, take out of the oven, turn off the heat.
  5. Sprinkle the chocolate across the hot saltines, either leave alone for 10 minutes or put in the warm oven for 5 minutes, then use a spatula to spread the chocolate
  6. When the cookies have cooled, throw them in the freezer for an hour or so, when this is over take them out and crack the cookies in to multiple pieces, an inch or so across.
  7. Eat, and abandon all hope.

Oh wow

but they mixed in caramel or toffee with the chocolate. I think whoever made them called it tree bark or something. Yes, quite dangerous.

The worst...

Nergraal's picture

...iteration I ever created was 2/3 semi-sweet chocolate, 1/3 white chocolate, 2 sticks of butter to 1 cup of brown sugar, and topped with heath bar bits and shredded macadamia nuts.

I could feel the weeks shaving off the end of my life with each bite.  It was amazing.
