Class Q & A with Ghostcrawler.

Apparently Blizzard has finally decided to address some player concerns and as such here's the first in a series where developer Ghostcrawler answers player questions and gives some insight into what to expect in the upcoming patch 3.2.
Eventually they'll be doing this for every class.
First up is Shamans:

Damn thing won't let me edit this post.
Well I'll be damned
They do admit it:
We do think Restoration shamans are at the risk of running out of mana perhaps more than any other healer right now, and in fact the seemingly unlimited mana in some healers is what leads to Chain Heal getting stomped on by other big heals. This is a problem we plan on addressing.
Huzzah!
Finally, we are exploring the possibility of the elementals coming out of any Fire or Earth totem respectively rather than to have to drop a new totem just for their temporary benefit.
I really did notice this last night on my motorcycle in the raid. Everyone else had 600K health plus on their bike and I was 539k.
Big Huzzah!
Shamans currently have the lowest base health of any class, and this often leads to concern over their survivability.
This is one of those weird legacies that has been in the game forever. Nobody currently working on classes can remember why that decision was initially made, so we plan to revert it for 3.2.
Huzzah here as well:
An example brought up regularly is concerning Armor Penetration being prevalent in Ulduar despite it not being the most desirable stat for shamans who choose to play as Enhancement.
The designers do feel like we’ve let the value of various stats get too far apart for the classes as a whole. When some characters want armor penetration and some don’t yet they are supposed to share basically the same gear, it makes the randomness of loot drops even more frustrating. We just need to get Enhancement to where they feel like armor penetration is as valuable as other melee stats.
Thanks for linking this Kael :)
Nerf sense tingling

I'm probably being overly cynical, but I really hope that means that they're planning on buffing shamans instead of handing out another round of nerfs to every other healer out there. But in combination with what they said about making mp5 more desireable for holy paladins (it's a bottom-of-the-barrel stat for us, just above stamina) I'm a bit worried.
Like the way they made spirit "more attractive to mages"...
... by nerfing molten armor?
[Improved Concentration Aura]
[Improved Concentration Aura] - All members of your group or raid now yield 10% more juice when squeezed. Also grants the caster +1 MP5 per 100 Spirit.
Per 100 attack power actually
cause you know, them holy paladins are supposed to be up there with the tanks DPSing the boss at the same time right?
Hey look double post.
"spirit "more attractive to
"spirit "more attractive to mages..."
Yeah, I'm still bitter about this one. Ignoring Stam and Int for a sec (as those generally come on all gear [yeah I know the deathchill cloak]) in Naxx we had plenty of gear with Hit, Crit and Haste - at least 2 of those. Those were all the stats that mages wanted. Now look though the gear and it's virtually impossible to find hit and crit or hit and haste or haste and crit together on the same gear, because it all comes with spirit. Sure spirit is now marginally useful for mages, but it's still just barely above the level of usefullness I'd get out of agility. When I'm trying to build my upgrade list I keep finding that my iLevel 200 crafted crap is better DPS than the iLevel 219 stuff. Great!! So while everyone else is drooling over new gear, I'm mostly sitting this patch out I guess...
Yeah
They kind of did that to holy paladins too - gear that drops in Ulduar-10 may have better +Int but less spellpower, no crit/haste and all those item points are eaten up by the egregiously expensive Mp5 stat. Right now we're in ur raids gankin' ur elemental shaman gear because we can wear it and it's actually itemized better for us.
And that's just dumb, because seriously, nobody else is going to want that spell plate.
Motorcycles & FL
Your base health has nothing to do with the health of the motorcycles. All the vehicles in that fight have their own "base" health value, and that value is modified upward only based solely on the iLvl of the gear you have equipped while riding. Since you're not actually using your own skills/talents during the fight, you should swap into the highest possible iLvl gear you have available, regardless of whether it fits your current spec or not.
Having an extra 2k base health (or however much they give you) on your toon won't help in that particular situation. Though it'll be great everywhere else.
The should change the magma totem to be like a combined Army of the Dead & Consecration. Have it scorch and crack the ground, neat lava effect, does area damage to anyone standing in it, and summon a horde of tiny fire elementals that attack stuff. Then have a "summon fire elemental" spell, that requires you to have any fire totem laid out, and give the spell the same CD as the elemental totem.
Hmmm
I have 4 tier pieces (2 7's and 2 7.5s) and most of everyting else is from heroic Ulduar. The only 2 blues I have left on Waka are my trinkets I thought I was pretty comprable to the rest of the healers there. Not trying to argue with you, just trying to figure out what I am missing.
"what I am missing."
I do admit
Waka could use some bling in his mooish life.
Possibly...
The guys over @ the maintankadin forums are claiming that choppers are bugged, and the extra health you get from your iLvl gear is disappearing as soon as you pick up, and subsequently drop off, a passenger.
If that's true, that might be part of the problem.
Next time, we'll just skip launching people and the demo gunners can simply stack the pyrite DoT on him instead.
This one's for all shaman minus Jurchen
Huzzah!!
Oh sweet, about damn time. Such a pain in the ass tying to drop totems in a middle of a boss fight while healing.
What is this sudden inspiration now? It is almost 5 YEARS after the relase date.
Thanks for the post again Kael.
Updated with Mage Q&A
Not gonna lie - I'm kinda disappointed.

I can sorta see where
I can sorta see where they're coming from to be honest. Mages have three specs, and at least two of them are very clear as to what they're good at. I'd personally love to see them try and focus more on say, not bashing my DK tanking into pathetic nothingness in balance attempts than spend time tweaking a class that, while has improvement room, "works" as such.
Not to say I don't think they need to work on the mages, I do have a 71 one myself, but.. I'unno. I'm happy to see them prioritizing for once instead of leaving something important alone for months and trying to tweak little things like this. Yes, fire needs moar pvp, and Frost needs moar pvp.. or.. the other way around, whichever, but at least you can choose one that does work. Some people don't have that choice, they're screwed no matter what spec they go.

It's not the spec thing
it's the fact that there were legitamate questions raised like the evocation debacle and mage dps with regards to other classes but he just tap dances around those questions and instead fills his post with stupid bullshit about tunicvsrobeslol.
!
And I got completely taken in by that, and didn't realize those. Wheeeeeeeee. Yeah, that's sorta what happened with Tranquil, and why I'd prefer to level my priest instead of my mage.. more flexibility. I've been annoyed with pure classes being bonked for a while.

It just gets me because the
It just gets me because the Frost PvE thing is so easy to fix. I'm not talking about a new spell or talent change or anything - its just a matter of scaling. Tweak a few numbers and at least the bulk of the problems would be solved. We've gone over this over at EJ in excrusiating detail. They have all the numbers and can point out exactly where things went wrong, and how to fix it without impacting PvP much at all. I'll agree that Fire PvP needs a lot more work to make it happen. Maybe I'm just being stubborn insisting on playing my spec (Frost) when the developers have obviously accepted that it's only a PvP spec.

Tuff tittyI mean, we'll get around to that eventually, but for now we have more pressing issues, namely warlocks. Can't wait to see what he has to say about us ugly pet toting hunters/miguided shadow priests! Karma my man, karma.
Updated with DKs.

Warlocks are up!
If you were hoping to see something that would make you want to play your Warlock again in 3.2, prepair do be dissapointed.
While they are aware of the plethora of issues surrounding our class, appearantly all the fixes are too big for the up coming patch. Aside from the current bandaid solutions offered in the PTR notes (i.e. 3 min CD on Soulshatter). However, Ghostcrawler does make enough vague promises for me to keep the Bhut as my main (for now).
Anywho...
Here are the highlights:
1.) We may finally see a demon flying mount. When? www.wowwiki.com/soon
2.) ZOMG gReeN fIAr!!! *sigh*
3.) And my personal favorite "Blowing a shard should be a big deal -- an exciting moment"
Enjoy!
Well timed mace stun
Warriors and Hunters get pushed over for druids this time.
Warriors brostorm their way in.
Hunters next possibly.
People need to stop bitching
like right now looking at just that warrior thread made me want to start throwing fists around. It's like they expect to be told that their class is going to become the shit and when it dosn't happen they flip shit
HUUUUUUUNTAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR
Updated
Last two classes are up.
Wait... wait..
"No, Vanish isn’t working properly and breaks when you breathe on the rogue funny. There are two problems with fixing it. One is that technically it’s just not easy. We would need to change the ways spells are resolved on the server side. Now that is something we can do, but the outcome would be taking a powerful ability and making it more powerful. We need to solve the frustration part of the ability, but not also greatly buff rogue survivability or damage potential when doing it. The solution we like the most is something like Vanish puts you in stealth for 1 second minimum no matter what else happens".
Is he saying... yes he is. Vanish doesn't work, but fixing it would make it too powerful? Wtf.

No
What he's saying is, "Vanish doesn't work, but fixing it the wrong way would [potentially] make it too powerful."
One way to fix Vanish would be to have Blizzard hired goons smack you over the head with a baton every time a rogue vanishes. That would "fix Vanish", in that YOU wouldn't be able to see the rogue... however, as entertaining as that may be, it would make rogues too powerful.
