Since it seems a lot of us love our custom UI's and addons, and we also like to share, I thought it might be helpful to have one thread where we can include all of this info. So share your UI's! Tell us what addons you are using and why. And if you've posted about them previous, link them in a post here. Don't forget to include screenshots and download information!

Ikuri's UI

Ikuri's picture

I posted about this previously, but I've made changes to my UI since then so wanted to include what I use. I used to be a huge addon addict. But it got to the point where my game performance was suffering for it. Then Slimbo posted about TukUI, and I thought it looked interesting enough to give it a try. It took a bit of tweaking, but since then I've really grown to love it. The best part though is that it drastically improved my game performance to where I can run ICC25 with my game settings on max graphics.

Original size here

As you can see, it's very different from the standard UI. What I like about it is that it took features from a lot of my favorite addons and combined them into one custom-made UI. I like the footers at the bottom of the chat and Recount boxes that show me how many guildmates are on, how many friends I have on, my FPS, my armor status, how much bag space I have, and the amount of gold I am carrying on me. I like the square mini-map with minimal buttons. I also like that my user, target, focus, and focus target frames are all centered above my toolbars.

One of the things with this UI though is that it's not a "plug and play" UI. I did a fair amount of tweaking to it to get it to where I was happy with how it looked. And you can't tweak it through some game menu interface. Changing the UI involves actually going into the .LUA files and editing them manually. So I only recommend this UI if you are comfortable editing game files. The nice thing is that the files themselves are not overly hard to edit, and there is an entire support forum devoted to UI edits, advice, and tips.

Even with this UI though, I do find myself using other addons to supplement my gameplay. So here's my list. All of these addons are available from Curse.com or WoWInterface.com:

Atlas - great addon for pulling up maps of dungeons, instances, raids, etc.

AtlasLoot - an ingame loot addon that lets you search the database for loot items, recipes, drops, etc. I use this addon a LOT.

Auctionator - Even though Blizzard recently made improvements to the ingame auction system, I still like having Auctionator installed. I really only have it installed for my bank alt though, since she handles all of my auction house business.

BadBoy - Anti-spam chat addon. This addon is a godsend. All of those pesky goldfarming tells? I never get those - ever. What's great is that badboy filters them and automatically files a complaint with the system for me, reporting them as spam.

Big Brother - I use this mod to monitor who in the raid is using flasks, has a food buff, and has raid buffs. This is how I know whenever Relm doesn't have a flask up. :P

Deadly Boss Mobs - It goes without saying that if you are raiding, you should have this installed.

DrDamage - I use this addon mainly for my DPS characters. It's theorycrafting at a glance, as it puts detailed damage information into your spell/ability tooltips so you can see just how much damage you can expect to do with any given spell or ability.

EPGP/EPGP Lootmaster - Again, if you are raiding, you need these installed. One thing with this though is that it didn't work well with my TukUI (had to do with how TukUI reskins the loot windows) so I had to make some .LUA edits to get this working correctly. Fortunately it's all fixed, so now I can handle master looting again without going nuts, lol.

ForteXorcist - I use this primarily for my warlock, though it works great for any character. Spell timer bars, shard tracker, healthstone tracker, summons assistant. It's also very customizable. I definitely preferred this over DoTimers and OmniCC.

Free Refills - If you use reagents or anything really that you need to keep a stack of on hand, then you want this. I carry reagents on both Ikuri and Xianne, and I have this mod set to auto-buy up to a certain amount of each reagent any time I visit a vendor that sells them. Extremely useful. :)

GatherMate - I use this map addon to help me track herbalism, mining and fishing nodes for the most part. It's great for planning out when I want to go gathering, and I like that the database can be shared among users.

Mapster - This is my main map addon. It adds more customization to the default WoW map, and it allows me to resize it, add map notes, and even make the map transparent.

MiKScrollingBattleText - I use this in place of the default WoW scrolling combat text. You can see it at work in the screenshot above. I like that it places incoming damage/heals on one side, outgoing damage/heals on the other side, and tracks replenishments. But what I like best is that it tracks when my abilities are off CD with a message across my screen and an audible click sound.

Pally Power - I only use this on Xianne of course, and even though it's old, it's really the best way to manage paladin buffs when you have multiple paladins in a group. Also if you play a pally and don't have this installed, get it installed before raiding with Samm or she might smack you. xD

Postal - This is a great mail addon that makes managing your mail a lot more efficient, especially if you do a lot of auctioneering. My favorite feature of it is the "Open All Mail" feature which lets my bank alt open all of her auciton mail in one click.

Prat 3.0 - I use this chat mod in conjunction with TukUI's chat interface. It's nice for customizing my chat windows, logging chat text, etc.

RankWatch - I have this installed, but don't rely on it as much as I used to. Basically it helps track when someone is using a downranked spell. This happens a lot, especially with the dual-spec bug. It also auto-sends a whisper to the person using the downranked spell, letting them know they're using a downranked ability.

RatingBuster - theorycrafting at a glance, but for gear. Ever had a piece of loot drop and not know if it's an upgrade or not? RatingBuster takes care of that. It's basically item statistic breakdown, analysis and comparison at a glance.

Recount - This is another mod that I think everyone should have installed, especially since it does a lot more than just tracking DPS. I have additional Recount mods installed with it, like RecountGuessedAbsorbs, RecountHealsandGuessedAbsorbs, RecountThreat, RecountDeathTrack, and RecountFailBot. Basically it's like having the information from World of Logs at my fingertips.

TomTom - This addon gives me a movable waypoint arrow and lets me create my own waypoints. Very handy for when I am out exploring or questing.

UpRank - Remember the dual spec bug I mentioned above? This takes care of that problem. UpRank automatically scans your toolbars and makes sure that all of your spells/abilities are upgraded to the correct rank. No more accidentally using downranked spells!

Vendor Bait - This addon does one very simple thing. When you are questing, it puts a glowy border around the quest reward that will give you the most money if you were to sell it to a vendor. Perfect for helping you maximize your profit while questing.

VuhDo - this is my #1 addon. You can see my VuhDo frames on the right side of the screenshot above. Basically VuhDo is a party and raid frame addon that enables one-click mouseover casting of spells and abilities. If you are playing a healer, you absolutely should look into using this or another similar type of addon (like HealBot or Grid+Clique). TukUI has its own Grid-style party and raid frames, but I disabled them and use VuhDo only. I love how customizable it is, I love how easy it is to use, and I love that the author is amazing about keeping it updated and improved. I can't say enough good things about it, really.

WIM (WoW Instant Messenger) - This addon tracks whispers and puts them into a seperate IM window, much like a messenger program. It has capabilies for tracking and logging whispers, which is awesome because it means I will never miss a whisper if you send me one.

So that's my set-up, :)

hehe

Adding vendor bait

Safardeya's picture

Thanks, Ik.  I'm constantly having to decide on quest rewards based on price and this will be a nice help.

Doesn't default UI do that?

kibito's picture

If you mouseover the reward doesn't it tell you how much it vendors for? Either that or I have some random addon that does that for me.

Yup kib...but...

Xyro's picture

You do have to mouse over them to see what has the highest value, my take on this add on is it automatically shows you whats the best price, so you just click...no comparing, I might get this especially once I start grinding my pally, time is precious :) I'll post a screen in a lil with my add-on list...but right now TACOOOO BELLLLLL!!!!

Let's say you have to choose from 6 items

Safardeya's picture

I think this mod highlights the most expensive one for you, so you don't have to mouseover each.  If you're like me and questing under your level, such a mod is a big help.

Very cool, what addon is

Cacciatore's picture

Very cool, what addon is managing the look of your mini-map?

All of the frames are TukUI,

All of the frames are TukUI, so the minimap is managed by that as well. :)

Where in VuhDo do you

Kisin's picture

Where in VuhDo do you configure it to sort people out by role like in your screenshot?  I see class/max hp/etc. but I can't seem to find role.

Sort by role

Ikuri's picture

You'd open up VuhDo options (type /vuhdo options) and then go to the "Move" tab. On the panels, you select what each column will show. I have mine set to sort by roles from there. On each column, you'd select "Special" in the top drop-down menu, and then "melee-tanks", "melee-dps", "ranged-healers", or "ranged-dps" for the bottom drop-down. I also have a seperate column for pets, though I am going to move that column to its own panel.

I like sorting it this way since it helps me quickly see where the tanks/healers/ranged/melee are, which also helps me prioritize my healing.

Also, if anyone wants to try Vuhdo but is hesitant about setting it up, I'm more than happy to sit in vent with you and walk you through putting it together. Groztokk is also a good person to ask for help with this.

Thanks :)  Got it working.

Kisin's picture

Thanks :)  Got it working.

Been using VuhDo for a while but I had everyone in one big block, which can make it hard to decide at a glance who to strategically let die if it comes to that.

minimalistic UI's

Madogg's picture

Minimalistic, some may even say sparce :D I have been playing a hunter and a mage long enough that I don't need many addons for them. My hunter uses a 7 button bar, a 4 button bar, a pet bar, a trap bar and the aspect bar. I use Bartender 4 for this and pretty much disable all other bars although I keep the new extra action bar available in case I find a need for it sometime. I make liberal use of the keybinds for most everything on the micro menu bar so I can do away with that one as well, same with the bag bar. My mage uses even less....a 7 button bar and two 4 button bars I find are plenty enough for me.

STUF....party and raid frames

SEXYMAP....I keep the calendar and time on and everything else is on my titan panel

DECURSIVE....for my mage

TITAN PANEL......for which I put all my addons on that and can keep my map clear

RECOUNT........I don't care if I am top dps or not, only that I am doing my "normal dps", when it dips low then I know to ask for a pause between fights to see what I am forgetting.

OMEN........lately this addon has become very important to me, both my hunter and mage (despite what my stat sheet says) do between 30% to 50% criting with their 3 main abilities, the last thing I want is to hit three 80k crits in a row and thus pull aggro on a boss fight thereby breaking a strategic positioning phase of an encounter, feign death and invisibility are always at the ready now :D

aside from tool type addons such as DBM, ATLAS LOOT, MUMBLE, EPGP and a few others my screen is clutter free adn on toop of that I use the extended camera range macro so I am able to see just about the whole screen during raids/dungeons. I uised to use an addon callled EVENT HORIZON ( i think thats what it was called) that would actually shrink or enlarge the play screen itself, it was very cool for awhile then some bugs popped up and had to dump it. Even MSBT distracts my eyse sometimes so I have learned to live without it and just use recount to see my hit vs miss and damage going out stats.

PS: If I could figure out how to screen shot and post it I would but alas Madogg is WoW veteran but puter noob :(

PSS: Been thinking of trying out BigWigs ( and possibly LittleWigs)....anyone know the pros and cons???

Ara's Addons - Edited and with questions (Ikuri!)

Arahila's picture

Ara's UI

Edited to add photos, etc

Here's what my UI looks like now. Yes, there is no number 5, probably got interrupted when doing this.

I look for simple, light weight addons since I have so many and I described only those others haven't. * = can't play without and (just downloaded) means just that, may stay, may go. For some inexplicable reason I can not use any addons that have not been updated in 2010. No idea why but I start to get weird errors and then WoW gets damaged to the point I have to reload. So missing are: LargerMacroIconSelection (for those who create custom icons and need to see lots of icons) Gatherer and DamnCraftSpam (condenses all the crafting messages to 1 line of text.) Since 3.3.5. Prat and Scrap (sell your junk and tell you how much it was worth) no longer work either. All from Curse.com except noted.

Forgot to number: Which addon are you using on the mini map?  Tukui

Are you sensing a pattern? lol

In all seriousness, what you are seeing in my UI is all Tukui. For #1, those are the "special" boss frames for raid encounters. I removed the code that creates them, since a recent patch to Tukui moved their location to an inconvenient place on the screen. #2 is how Tukui reskins the chat window. I also use the chat mod Prat, and it works well with Tukui. #3 is how Tukui reskins the player unitframes. Target, pet and focus target frames look the same, though player frames are color-coded by class (ie. mine appears white/gray since I am a Priest, a druid's would be orange, a DK's red, etc.). #4 is Recount, and I have added code to Tukui to reskin my Recount frame to look like the rest of Tukui. The minimap is also Tukui's default map appearance.

Tukui can be a "plug-n-play" UI, but to get it looking like mine, you'd have to tweak it some. Tweaking means actually going into the addon files and editing the addon code in the .lua documents (as opposed to just toggling an ingame options menu.) While this sounds scary, there's plenty of support available at the Tukui forums on how to edit certain bits, etc. and I've been able to tweak mine easily enough with just a little research.

#5 is VuhDo. Tukui does have its own built-in raid frames which can be set up like Grid (for healers) or a more DPS-friendly one. I have the Tukui frames disabled though and just use VuhDo since VuhDo replaces raid frames really well, and lets me see debuffs, effects, etc. VuhDo is also really customizable, so even if you don't like how mine looks, someone could edit theirs to look different. I actually use it on ALL my characters, regardless of class/role.

One other thing with Tukui is that it limits you to the number of action bars you see on the screen in my screenshot. This is fine for me, since I like things simple and didn't want a lot of actionbar clutter. But if you like a lot of actionbars, then you're better off with something like Dominos or Bartender.

Some suggested addons for you, if you want to clean up the ui and reduce your screen clutter:

Dominos or Bartender - replaces the default actionbar appearance with a more streamlined, customizable one.

X-perl (or similar) - unitframe addon replacement. This will clean up your party/pet/target/etc. unit frames and is highly customizable.

Chinchilla Minimap (or similar) - I used to like Chinchilla (before Tukui) since it let me make the minimap really simple in appearance.

Option House - If you use a lot of addons, I strongly recommend getting this or a similar program since it helps you manage your addons more efficiently from within the game (as opposed to having to log out to character select and manage it there.)

I'm telling!

Just curious, why don't you like Omen?

Omen gets in my way

Arahila's picture

Title says it all.

Err...

Xyro's picture

I mean unless you have an issue with threat, then I'd say don't run it, but a few of us casters like to test our tanks apparently and is a MUST for me. I know personally if I don't run it, I'll be seeing the floor more than the boss. I'll take a shot of my UI, it's gone through some drastic changes recently and to be honest I LOVE it's set up right now. No meters hinder my view...I'll take a shot, post it and break it down afterwards....TO BE CONTINUED...

Photobucket

Photobucket

The first shot is just your normal 'idle' mode, no special encounter warnings, spell bars, etc. The second SS I enabled test bars for both DBM and ForteXorcist to give you somewhat of an idea how it looks in combat, granted there's a few more things that come up in combat such as SCT and my Aggro warning from X-Perl, but I'll post a 'action' shot soon enough...more to come...muahhahaha...*cough*.....

Omen

Ikuri's picture

If Omen gets in the way, but you're running Recount, there is a threat addon just for Recount that serves the same purpose. It's on Curse - RecountThreat or something similar. It's what I use instead of Omen, and there's a way to set Recount to toggle back and forth between the threat window and the dps window when in or out of combat.

Skada is another option

Melindra's picture

It is both a threat meter and a dps meter, you just toggle between modes. Lightweight also. You can find it on Curse.

Here's my more-or-less

This is what it used to look like circa 2007.

OMG

Libentina's picture

Explosion of UISHYTE! AHHH! My corneas!!My beautiful cornea's!!!

I don't have a great

Rhalla's picture

I don't have a great in-action one handy, and the realms are down, but this kind of shows the key elements. This was my old guild's killshot on festergut. We downed him with like nobody left alive, pretty epic, and it was only under the 5% buff days so I felt pretty hawt. Of course the guild kind of pooped out shortly thereafter, for me at least, so here I am. Anyway.

I use Dominoes for my actionbars. I also have a Razer Naga mouse (here's where I wax poetic about it), which is an AMAZING mmo mouse, basically a great mouse with an extra 12-button keypad under your thumb. It makes mouseover healing using [target=mouseover] macros a dream with Grid (my raid/party frame addon).

I also use ButtonTimers for all my crucial cooldowns. That's the Immolate/Conflagrate/Chaos Bolt buttons right in the center of my UI. I like it a lot more than DoTimer and other things like that, primarily because it's very easy to configure and everything is in a constant location. I know exactly what each bar means.

I sometimes use ArcHUD (or is it IceHUD?), but I actually have a hard time "seeing" the information there. I tend to use plain old unitframes for that, I have pitbull to show player, target, and ToT on opposite sides of the screen.

I also soemtimes use Forte (that's the cooldown bar in the center), but SexyCooldown took the interesting logarithmic cooldown flavor from Forte and stripped out all the other heavyweight stuff, so I use that now.

Chincnilla does the minimap, and I use Fortress and LDB for most of my button/data widgets. Skada is my DPS meter, which is critical, since Skada handles shield absorb healing attribution a LOT better than recount (even recountguessabsorbs). Omen is my threatmeter. Prat for chat stuff.

I used to use that cool dragon window resizer, to give me a black bar across the bottom of my screen to hold my UI (like Xyro), but I found that I preferred having regular stuff onscreen, just obscured, rather than the black bar.

I also use a ton of other addons for utility, like auctioneer, quickauctions, and auctionlite for AH stuff, Lightheaded and Tomtom for quest help, and so on. But these are my persistent combat-oriented UI changes.

Hey Kael!

Arahila's picture

This looks like Prat (1) and Dominos (2) but what is 3? Trying to decide how to reset up my UI.

Close

Kael's picture

1 is Chatter
2 is Dominos
3 is Pitbull

Pitbull can be configured to move portraits and bars around a bit.

That looks like..

Rhalla's picture

Pitbull to me. At least, you can do that layout with pitbull. Depending on your settings, it actually moves (it uses the 3d rendering from your characterpane). It eats a fair amount of CPU, though.

Arghhhh...

Arahila's picture

I try to stay away from large, CPU sucking addons. Going to go look at Bartender since I need more bars that Tukui will allow, and it looks so cool. Bummed. Going to look at Vuhdo again.

I have several addons that seem to have been abandoned and if/when I can afford the updated WoW Programming book, I am going to try and do "fan" updates.

Gonna redo all my macros with the ones posted in the hunter forum and maybe even get Vent up and running.

Purdy!

Everro's picture

Wow, I really like the way TukUI looks. The one thing that bothers me about using multiple Adds is the amount of screen coverage that results from it. Tuk looks really streamlined, though. I'm definitely gonna give it a try.

Yarr

Ikuri's picture

One of the things I really like about Tukui is that it is so low-memory. I'm able to run 25man raids on high graphics because of the low amount of memory my addons use. Tukui also takes features from a lot of popular addons and integrates them into the core UI. And yeah, it's big on saving screen space. Plus since modding it means modding the .lua files, you can easily customize it to suit your needs. Their official forums have lots of custom-made edits from other people, though what I use is the default setup with just a few minor tweaks here and there.

I know that Bartender integrates with Tukui, though I don't know if it will allow more than 5 actionbars. I'll ask Cacc to give his input here since he was using both last we talked about it, plus he's pretty good with codes and modding and such.

Okaaaaaaaaaaaay, here we go....

Add-On Break down...

Xyro's picture

I also did away with my original blizz UI, via TukUI. After first downloading TukUI I fell in love with the 'openess' of this UI. I haven't done any tweaks via .lua files, instead I just used it as a 'clean canvas' and situated all my other addons as I saw fit.

1) X-Perl Unit Frames - This is a very nice and customiseable unit frame add-on, you can scale any frame you want, as well as move them whever you want.

a) Is obviously mine and my parties frames, I scaled it to as small as I could, while still being able to read names. Come raid time I don't have my party frames show, instead I'm able to fit 5 raid frames (25 people) comofortably where the #12 is. I particularly love my raid frame set up, incase I ever have to target someone specifically who's in another group, just point and click. It's also a very nice way to get some Real Time monitoring of everyone in the raid, it shows everything from health, D/Cs, AFKs, getting rez'd, etc.

b) Is my Target and ToT (Target of Target) frames, if you look closely, you can also see a threat meter on my Targets frame, which is as accurate as Omen is.

2) TidyPlates/ThreatPlates - I believe both of these add-ons are in the same download. This replaces your standard unit plates (Hotkey is 'V') and makes them much cleaner looking. On top of this, it will also display your current DoTs/Debuffs + time left on them, on top of the bar, for who you currently have targeted. But the best feature I like about this add-on is it's threat awareness system, notice right now the frames are green...which is good. They start to turn yellow when your gaining aggro and red when you have someone completely on you. This is also reversable for tanks, meaning if you have Threat they can be displayed as green, when your losing aggro/lost aggro, they will go from yellow to red. Your also able to click on the bar itself to target something, instead of the unit directly.

3) NiceDamage - Just a simply font change for damage, from the old, dull and boring font.

4) Power Auras Classic - This is another one of my FAVORITE add-ons. You can put 'auras' (aka glyphs/graphics/text) on your screen for pretty much ANYTHING you want, you can even import your own images. Low mana, low health, full health, full mana, buffs, debuffs (Yes, even boss specific ones. VERY nice for the Defile debuff from the LK fight), procs, missing a buff, missing a flask, etc, etc...most likely if you can think of it, you can do it and it's not hard to set up at all.

b) I'll do 'B' first, because there's not as many :P The 'star or light' looking one is to let me know if my Spellstone is active on my weapon, the shield is my Fel Armor, I also have one for my Frost Wyrm flask, as well as Well Fed. I have other ones for my secondary spec, but you get the idea.

a) Normally I don't have every aura pop up at once, I just tried my best for this example. I use to run IceHUD (I still do on Melee classes), but there was to much clutter on my screen, so I put up auras for certain % of health or mana. The red aura to the left is when my health is @ or above 90% (Same thing with my mana on the right, but it's blue, not shown). The 'golden' aura to the right is when my mana is @ or less than 35% (Again, same aura for my health on the left side, not shown). The green ring aura with timer is my Shadow Trance aura, which is an instant Shadow Bolt cast (I was always missing my insta SBs and was pissing me off). My newest and I feel best aura yet is the massive blue blob on my screen. The standard little red text letting me know I was OOM, wasn't cutting it for me. This blob of an aura pops up at 5% or less mana and has done WONDERS in my mana management. Then there's my 'DEMON DIPSHIT!' aura, which is obviously self explanatory, no demon = that aura. Unfortunately a screen shot doesn't show this add on in all it's glory, you can set certain effects to each aura (ie - Pulse, glow, grown, fade, etc.) and from my understanding, isn't a heavy memory use addon at all.

5) SexyMaps - IT'S A SEXY MAP! I like the graphics on it, it's nice piece of eye candy and you can scale/move it around as well.

6) Dominos - This is the equivalent to Bartender, but I found Dominos much more 'user friendly'. It allows you to move, scale, change opacity as well as a few other options for all your action bars. If you see an action bar in a weird place, that's my Dominos. (I know Bartender has an issue with TukUI, I haven't had any issues using TukUI/Dominos. I'm also using far more than 5 bars)

7) ForteXorcist - This is a somewhat Warlock geared add-on, but it can work for other classes as well. It will give you spell timers for your DoTs/Debuffs, chat messages for resisted, missed, reflected, etc. It also gives you some Lock only bars for your healthstone/soulstone/summons, etc. Again, this addon is very flexible and I feel is a MUST for my Walock (Even more so for Afflic locks).

a) This is the spell timer bar, again fully scaleable. Pretty self explanatory.

b) This is also a feature of ForteXorcist, it gives me bars for my HeatlhStone/Soulwell/Summons/Shard Count. A nice all in one area for lock abilities.

8) Recount - A nice addon to monitor your dps, from fight to fight or overall for a certain instance. This has tons of other features as well, such as a HPS meter, death meter, announce stats in chat and much more that I don't personally use. This is very helpful for figuring out what new rotation works best or if a new piece of gear is benefical or not.

9) Omen3 - A basic threat meter, don't let your bar go over the tanks or EAT FLOOR! This is a absolute MUST for me =D

10) Prat - A chat addon, you can move the chat window even lower than Blizz lets you, has some nice other features as well. One of my favorites is being able to move your dialogue box.

11) Elkano's Buff Bars - If your not a fan of the standrad 'block' buff system, this may be a nice alternative, it will also show how much time left or stacks you have of a certain buff/debuff, VERY helpful for certain boss fights. Fully scaleble and adjustable. You can pick and choose if you don't want certain buffs/debuffs to appear. It can also show Temporary Enchants, such as Spellstone/Firestone and I'm assuming would work for Enhance Shammies, but I've never had a Shammy, so don't dont take my word for it :)

a) Is just a listing of Buffs, I have it set for the bars to grow up.

b) Is just a Debuff listing, I have these bars set to grow down.

12) Skinner - This is one of my most recent and drastic changes to my UI, which again I'm a big fan of. This add on allows you to place a 'black bar' at the top or bottom of your screen, it's fully adjustable. Now the common misconception about this addon is it will DECREASE your field of view, which in reality it INCREASES your periphial vision. The more you shrink the height of the game screen, the more you gain on the sides (Yes, you can literally see MORE on the sides of your screen, I joke you not). Having this black bar is a GREAT place to put my meters, raid frames and chat window. Now I no longer have all that stuff on my actual play area and in turn, you can see more, have less clutter and have things set up in a much cleaner manner.

You can also 're-skin' all the windows in the game (as well as the black bar), but I chose not to, I only use this addon for the black bar. One drawback with this add-on is it automatically sets a default skin to almost every window in the game (which is just a greyish background). You can get it back to the normal default Blizzard 'parchment' looking backgrounds, you just have to play around in the settings.

13 a+b) SCT (Scrolling Combat Text) - This addon lets you have combat messages 'scroll' on whever you set up its location. Normally people will have it scroll on the sides of their chracter. You can have pretty much any combat text pop up and scroll here. For me, I have my heals, buffs, auras, etc. scroll down on the right side. On the left side (Not shown), I will have my damage taken, misses, blocks, dodges, etc. scroll. This also has a feature to have other combat text pop above your head...I have it set up to show my combat status (Entering/leaving), mana regen and a few others I don't normally pay attention to :P

That about sums up the majority of addons I use, some others I use but aren't shown are AtlasLoot (great for checking out instances if your looking for certain pieces of gear), TitanPannel which is very similar to FUBAR (It gives you general info bar that pops up at the top of my screen on mouse over. It can list such as gold, durability, time, coords, addon buttons, XP earned...again fully customiseable), NPCScan/Overlay, very nice for tracking down those rare silver elite NPCs, it will give you an audible and visual warning that you have one in range, as well as show their spawn/pat locations on the map and mini map. In my 'idle' screen shots I use TipTac for the mouse over info, you can move and modify this window to your liking.

Well, that's my UI in all it's glory. Feel free to ask any questions or leave comments about it!

RAWR!

"I know that Bartender integrates with Tukui, though I don't know if it will allow more than 5 actionbars. I'll ask Cacc to give his input here since he was using both last we talked about it, plus he's pretty good with codes and modding and such."

Tuk is so cool, but I need all my bars. How the hell do people play without all their bars!? Even with macros... I just don't get it.

If there was a code to mod it to add bars...

I currently have 40 addons and I always look to see if there is a "light weight" version. If I get around to playing my Lock more, I will look at ForteXorcist again. Elkano's Buff Bars and Skinner look like they would be helpful so will try them.

Skinner WTF?

Arahila's picture

Ok, So I downloaded Skinner and got all the instructions. But when I open up WoW I get this:

Does this mean I just haven't "skinned" the addons? I looked at the WowAce page and couldn't tell. I've left things alone since I don't want to mess up my UI.

I get the same...

messages Ara. I think it's incase you want to have a custom skin and there's just not one loaded up. You may notice your other in game windows aren't in their original 'skin' (ie - Marble background, parchment, etc.), this is what happened to me with Skinner. For the most part it's tolerable, but I couldn't stand it. If you go into the options there should be some options with a button called something like 'Default UI' you wanna use that...that fixed it for me. If your having futher problems with it let me know in game and I'll help walk you through it, since I've only had this issue once.

I really like Elk BB (Elkano Buff Bars), because its a very visual way of seeing what buffs/debuffs you have, especially on certain fights where you have to watch how many stacks or the time left on a certain debuff (ie - Sindragosa, Blood Queen, Putricide, etc.). Skinner I only used for the 'black bar' since I was having screen clutter issues, I feel Skinner helped IMMENSELY with that. I know there's other addons that do the same thing, but Skinner was the first one I used and it did its job.

Also I've never had any issues while using TukUI and Dominos (Bartender counterpart...I prefer Dominos much more).

Does that mean...

Arahila's picture

I really like Elk BB (Elkano Buff Bars)

This hasn't been updated this year and anything that has been updated in 2010 wreaks havok with my machine. No idea why but avoided those addons took care of the problem.

Skinner I only used for the 'black bar' since I was having screen clutter issues, I feel Skinner helped IMMENSELY with that. I know there's other addons that do the same thing, but Skinner was the first one I used and it did its job.

I did notice the changes and hadn't had a chance to work with them yet. Thanks for the fix!

Also I've never had any issues while using TukUI and Dominos (Bartender counterpart...I prefer Dominos much more).

So you are using both...do you get all 10 action bars? Dominos is on my essential addons list.

Unfortunate...

Xyro's picture

I know some people have issues with out of date addons and it really is ashame. I'm one of the lucky few that don't have to deal with it, the only time I have any issues with out of date addons is come patch time. Then I have to go into my addon list and just check 'Load Out of Date Addons'.

Yup I'm using Dominos AND TukUI (Not Dominos and Bartender, that would just be silly =P). On Xyro, it seems I am using all ten bars, my melee classes I dont. But because of my "Oh shit" button setup for Xyro, I am using all ten.

As for Skinner, I just looked, the things you want to have unchecked are the tabs with the "Disable xxx Frame" button. Clicking that should uncheck all the categories in that tab (There should be three different tabs with this setup). I also had an issue in my quest log, where Skinner turned all my text yellow and was EXTREMELY hard to read against the tan background. I can't remember exactly which color I changed to get this back to normal. But I want to say it's under the Color tab, and then try changing Text Color. If you do have this problem, it will obviously be whatever color is currently shaded as yellow. You may also have to /reload after fixing this for it to take effect. Hope this helps, again, any problems just hit me up.

Thanks!

Question and Nice Cacciatore

Arahila's picture

Cacciatore - is that an addon on the right with the raid markers?

Xyro - I should have asked before but how did you get the black bar? I wish the author had included some screenshots.

I hate when this happens, what am I downloading?

tukui

Ariselle's picture

i STILL can't get my chat to work when i use this. there's no "auto-joining" of any channels, no guild chat, nothing. I can whisper people, but if they whisp me back I don't see it.

anyone else having chat problems with the latest version?

I loaded the beta version

Cacciatore's picture

I loaded the beta version just a few days ago and it worked fine with chat. I'd suggest just moving your interface folder and reloading the game so it can rebuild it for you. Then reload tukui, verify it's working, then deal with your other addons that may interfere with chat.

Thank you!

Ariselle's picture

I did just what you suggested and it works like a charm. =)

Thanks!

Thanks again, Cacciatore. Guess I will actually go load this in a bit since we got a reprieve.

My UI

Malgorn's picture

Add-ons:

Ark Inventory: Bag customization add-on. One of my must-haves. Lets me organize and find what I'm looking for in my bags and bank.

Atlas Loot: Easiest way to look up loot tables, rep rewards, gear sets, etc. in game without having to tab out to WoWhead.

BadBoy: Anti-spam chat filter. Another must-have.

Bartender: Possibly the most useful add-on ever. Allows customization of Action Bars.

Chatter: Chat window mod. Allows movement of the entry box and some other helpful options.

Deadly Boss Mods: Required for raiding.

Gear Score Lite: A relic of WotLK. I haven't uninstalled it because I can't be arsed.

Grid: (Not shown.) Party/raid unit frames. I use this with the mana bars addition instead of standard party and raid frames. More compact and to my liking.

Mik Scrolling Battle Text: Combat text and notification customization. Displays incoming and outgoing healing/damage, procs, etc. (See 37k crit Obliterate for illustration. /flex)

Move Anything: Exactly what it sounds like.

Omen: Threat meter.

OmniCC: Cooldown timer. Counts down the seconds until you can use an ability again. Also displays on runes for Death Knights.

PitBull4: Unit frames customization.

Postal: Great add-on for in-game mail. Allows you to open all messages with one click.

Quartz: (Not shown.) Cast bar customization.

Rating Buster: Compares stats on items to make upgrade selection easier.

Recount: Combat meter/recorder.

Satrina Buff Frame: Buffs and debuffs customization. Allows changing of postion, size, and timers.

Sexy Map: Mini-map customization/skins.

TipTac: Tool-tip pop-up customization. Allows you to change the position, appearance, and font size of the tool-tip window.

Titan Panel: Information panel.

Yury's Rune Display: Death Knight rune customization. Allow free movement of the rune bar, minor display options, and can hide the rune bar when out of combat.

Pretty basic, though I got

Giran's picture

Pretty basic, though I got some great ideas from the above posts so this might be changing -

X-perl unit frames

Bartender4 with a seperate cooldown timer mod (basicly puts a number in the box to show how much time is left on an ability) and dualspec so it will automatically change all of my bars depending on if I'm in ARMs or PROT

"Chatter" for the text box

Tidy and threat plates

The Natural Order required mods in EPGP, DBM and Omen

I also have Squared but its only enabled on the priest. X-perl has always worked for me as long as I'm not healing.

I have not played with TUKUI

Samira's picture

I have not played with TUKUI yet but looks like I am going to have to use this simply because it has such a small footprint memory wise.  Is it XML and how much code changing do you have to do?  I am not good with code I am a router guy so code makes my head hurt.  Anyone able to possibly walk me through the setup?

TukUI

Ikuri's picture

Download Elv's UI. It's a TukUI mod that has a really slick interface and installs like any other addon. Typing /tc in game will bring up an interface menu that let's you change all sorts of things about the UI, making it easy to use.

Namely it's been stretched out

Tartare's picture

This is my UI (non combat)

This is my UI (combat)

Here's what's in it!

1: Prat|
It makes my chat window better!

2: X-Perl UnitFrames
It makes my raid frames better!

3: GupPet
It lets me summon non-combat pets and mounts randomly!

4. Dominos
It makes my action bars better!

5. Eventhorizon
timer bars for all of my abilities. This is my favorite of the many addons that do this. It would be difficult to live without it. It helps with rotations or just knowing when to use an ability (or stop using it) based on the cooldown of other abilities.

6. Playerscore
I click on a person, then I click on the hammer. It tells me everything about that person. I can then stalk them. (this is the majorly updated sequel to gearscore)

7. Recount
I don't use Omen. instead I use Recountthreat. It's like omen IN recount! WHOA

8. Minimap button frame
I hate all those damn minimap buttons. This collects them all and puts them into a collapsible little window. Look at my clean minimap! YAY!

8 1/2 (I forgot to put a number. It's the little box between 8 and 9) - Decursive
For instant one-click removal of standard debuffs (poison, curse, disease, magic)

9. Place for UI elements that I am testing
Currently it has control freak. This is just something I'm messing around with and it not a permanent part of my UI

10. Healbot
Some people like Vuhdo. Some people like Healbot. Some people are masochists and use grid and clique. I keep it simple.

11. Titan Panel
I like things like Titanpanel, Fubar, Broker, etc. They keep everything in easy clicky

NOT ON THE SCREEN:

NPC Scan - To find rare mobs.

Ackis Recipe List - Lets me see all the recipes for my tradeskill that I don't have and where to get them and what level I can learn them, etc.

Addon Control Panel - Turn on and off addons without leaving the comfort of my login.

Altoholic - Keep tabs on everything about my alts without having to swap over to them. Sam says "do you have any blithsful kroobadoo?" and I bring up altoholic and say "No, but Tartaji has three poopsuck kroobadoos." etc.

Archy - Archaeology addon! YAY

Atlas - Instance maps that actually have useful info. YAY!

Atlasloot - What drops from who and where? This tells me! Also a wishlist! It's like WOWMAZON!

Auctionator - For auctions!

Bagnon - One bag to rule them all (interchangable with Combuctor or whatever I feel like using at any given time)

Bankstack - Instant sorting of the shit in my bags and bank.

Deadly Boss Mods - required. 'nuff said.

EPGP (dkp reloaded) and EPGP Lootmaster - also required!

Fishing Buddy - Fishing addon! YAY!

FreeRefills - Okay, I just installed this cause Iky recommended it. Haven't really played with it yet.

Gathermate2 - For gathers! (I'm trying this new. Gatherer was giving me issues)

MikScrollingBattleText - I was using Parrot, but I'm trying this right now.

OmniCC - cooldown timers right on my buttons OMG

Outfitter - Still way better than blizz's gear tool.

Panda - This addon is confusing and I'm not sure what all it can do, but it does allow me to more easily disenchant and mill things, so I keep it around.

Postal - Mailbox addon! YAY

Quartz - Much better castbars.

QuestGuru - Improves the quest log significantly. Warning: Don't use the Questguru tracker. It's broken (for now)

Rating Buster - For figuring out if that drop is an upgrade.

Reforgenator - Gives suggestions as to what to reforge based on gear and class/spec. I ignore some of the advice (like reforge crit to dodge. no.) but it helps me especially realize that I forgot to forge that new belt.

Routes - Creates routes to follow for gathering professions based on Gatherer/Gathermate data.

SAL - ANOTHER archaeology addon! YAY!

SellJunk - Auto-sells greys.

Tidyplates and Threatplates - Replacement name plates. 1000% necessary for tanking.

TipTac - Lets me move tooltips where I want them.

Totem Timers - Better shaman bars for my shaman.

Titanbar addons:

Titanguild, Titangold, TitanDurability, TitanMail, TitanPerformance, TitanProfessions, titanRepair, TitanSpec, TitanXP

Things I realize when looking at these screenshots:

1. I need to change that terrible font for Mikscrollingbattletext
2. I need to fix my quartz positioning.

WIM

Holycow's picture

A really good chat mod is WIM (WoW Instant Messenger.)  It pops up all tells in an IM screen that has options for group invites, ignore, add to friends, etc.  It also keeps you from missing tells if you screen is moving rather fast.  I also like NPCScan for easier location of rare spawns in Outland, Northrend, and Cataclysm zones.

WIM

Ikuri's picture

WIM is one of my indispensable addons. It's a complete must-have for me, especially on raid nights when EVERYONE and their brother IM's me, lol. :)
