I whole heartedly agree with this one. The most respected badge we could give in my opinion. We can sit here and play this game and have our fun wherever we may live because of those that serve to keep us safe.
Are you saying the main image is to big to put at the top of a lot of the forum posts around here?
I went and found some smaller images and added them to the bottom of my first post. I just went with the Iwo jima memorial/original photo since it is so iconic. I know it might not be fair to some of our foreign players, like those pesky canucks. Also it is almost purely a Marine thing, so if someone has a better idea for a joint services image I would be open to that. Speaking as a former Army soldier myself, I would be happy with the Iwo Jima flag raising.
I'd vote for kind of a more serious picture for this one. I'm all for this badge regardless, I'm an extreme supporter of our troops, they go out to fight and live through hell so that the rest of us don't have to.
I went with what I did because we don't just have American's in the guild, and the Iwo Jima picture is very American specific. If it's to represent anyone who served, then it shouldn't be something specifically American. Also an ultra serious badge appearance I think wouldn't fit the character of our wacky sexy vets.
in 2012 I believe is the target date for co-ed subs (only the boomers though).
You learn real quick though you really really got to have a sense of humor on subs, or the rest of the crew will zero on you in a heartbeat and you'll become a target of jokes. Being underwater for a length of time makes people do odd things, lololol :)
eh not that old.. i went into the navy in 94. grant it i was 17 but still.... Hell i made it thru boot and half of corps school before i turned 18.. talk about sucking, i was out of boot camp and couldnt legally buy any smokes..
Don't feel bad. I joined in 1999 and none of my MOS's exist anymore. I started as a 31R, that got changed to 25Q, which I understand went away entirely (didn't just get changed to something else). So the good old Army beauracracy is still at it.
Served 4 years enlisted during the first Gulf War (87-91)... took a break for college, and am now actively serving my 16th year as an Army officer which has included a 16 month stint in Iraq (95-present). Does this mean I get two badges since I have technically served twice ;)
well the funny thing is all that time in the Navy and I only stepped foot on a ship once... and that was to visit my friend that was on the Tarawa. I had specialized as a surgical tech and then further spec'd as a ENT Tech. We had like one or two sea duty spots lol so i pretty much stayed in a hospital. I had to go play with the Marines a few times which was where i met my first wife (leave it to me to find the only Marine that doesnt believe in Honor, Courage, Commitment). But I love Marines, anyone willing to jump in front of a bullet for me? how can you not love them
I admire anyone who has the patience to put up w/ the day to day crap that is military life. ( Maybe its better in other branches...) 4 yrs was my breaking point, I feel that is enough time in the service of King and Country. 19D, 1/3 ACR Brave Rifles
Honestly i miss it.. Grant it when i was in i couldnt wait to get out, but then once out i wanted back in... guess its the grass is greener on the other side bit.
Enlisted South Dakota Army National Guard 27 Dec 1993 (how's for a Christmas present?) I was originally a 31C, then 31U, finally (signal corps), then switched to 96B (Intel Analyst) to make E-5. I came on Active Duty as a Signal Officer in 2002, Did a tour in Germany (and a few sandy places in the middle east along the way) before getting stationed in Ft. Belvoir, VA (DC suburbs). I left active duty for the reserves in 2008. 18 years down, 2 to go.
Did 2 tours in Iraq, one in Kuwait, and played in the sand in Muqdisho Somalia Africa where I was combat wounded. I hope I never go to that part of the world ever again.
After 9/11 happened they tried to get me back into the service since my specialty was E.O.D. (Explosive Ordnance Disposal), IED's were the biggest nightmare ever. If you don't know much about this type of thing I suggest watching the Hurt Locker. I've only watched it once, just brought back too much shit from over there really.
/salute to everyone else that has served too, I'm proud to have shared the same blood and mud with you all.
Here here!
Excellent idea Fiermi. Tal? make it so!
